What's the difference between lowering springs and coilovers?

I've been looking at others' cars and some use lowering springs others use coilovers. I recently bought a 2002 EM2 a couple Wednesdays ago and plan to lower my car soon so this will influence my decision of lowering springs or coilovers.

you can adjust the height with coilovers

Lowering springs are exactly that, they just lower your ride height by a set amount, but give you a harder ride.

To do it the right way, you'll also replace your shocks.

Coilovers give you the ability to change dampening settings, adjustable ride height.

If you go with CHEAP EBAY coilovers, you're going to pay for it by a hard ride and shitty suspension. Go the right way, get Tein's or Form and Function's.

Coilovers are the way to go, no doubt about it. The extra cost is offset by the abilities to setup the car the way YOU drive.

it all depends on what you want. whats the budget if your dd'ing the car or what. lowering springs is exactlly what their called springs that lower the car. Bad thing with springs is your stuck at what ever height it settles at. coilovers are adjustable wich is good for snow to summer weather and if your not happy with height. coilovers imo come in two types the cheap sleeve type people tend to call them coilovers even tho the proper name is adjustable springs. And the full body coilovers wich are pretty pricey but yet very affective and rewarding afterwards.

i wrote this whole thing to see their was already like 3 replies when i was done fml.

If you get lowering springs + shocks you'll be set. As long as you don't need to adjust anything. But coilovers gives you the ability to change height and many other things. Depends what you want, and what your price range is.
