What's the purpose of a capacitor?

I just bought a new system--2 12" Pioneer Premier Dual Voice Coils and a 1000 watt Kenwood amp. After a while, my fuse in my amp blows. If I bought a capacitor, would that cure this problem?

probably not... all it does is supply the amp with the extra power it needs on high amp draws... AKA less strain on battery and alternator. some people say it cleans the sound of a subwoofer too.

ur fuse problem could be a few things... what causes it to blow? like do u turn it up to ___ and it blows? describe what it takes for it to blow.

Yeah when i turn it up it will turn off(the subs) and then i'll turn the head unit off and back on and they will turn on again. After a while though, the subs wouldnt turn back on and the fuse was blown when i checked it. I am so confused.

what size wire are you powering the amp with? is the fuse in the amp wire the same size as the fuse in the amp itself?

The amp is being powered with 4 gauge wiring and the fuse in the amp wire is 100 amps and the fuse in the amp is 40 amps.

whoa, thats not the problem but you need to put a 40 amp fuse in the wire.

is the ground wire the same size? where is it grounded to?

sounds like you may have the anp wired to the sub incorrectly... double check that.

check the ground...make sure you sanded the paint around it off...that was what caused my system to go out like that...after a nice sanding, it cured it...

if you have the amp wired to the subs wrong, it will blow the amps fuse... u might have the incorrect OHM loading on the subs or amp... either will cause problems.

first of all a 40 amp fuse is to small for an amp that has two 40 amps in it.

If your kenwood is the mono block kenwood it is the wrong amp for your application, you need the two channell.

The you need to wire your subs up to an 8 ohm load each then bridge them back down on the amp for a 4 ohm mono load total.

As for the cap, well they are pretty much useless.

If you are worried about the power you need to get a new alternator, when you have sufficient power to run the system the only thing a cap does is regulates the voltage. (trying to keep in smooth at 14.4 volts) and filters any unwanted noise from the power side.

But without a new alternator, your just throwing your money away
