Ok, so my mechanic finally put my 18g greddy turbo in my car. Everything look and ran fine, untill smoke started to come out of the turbo. Not that much, just a llitle bit and smell like burned oil. So, we're thinking that the turbo is burning oil. The turbo was used and the guy that sold it said that it ran fine. But no. My mechanic told me that I can still run it like that and just be checking the oil level like everyday or so, and once I save some money to rebuild it. So, any comments guys......................

If I were you, I'd just buy another one instead of having it rebuilt. How much did you pay for it anyway?

sounds like blown seals, usually turbos will smoke like hell from burning oil because the seals are blown/bad. but yea i would recommend just buying a new turbo, by the time you rebuild that turbo, you could just buy a brand new one.

18g turbo, manifold, downpipe, boost/air-fuel/oil pressure gauges, 255 fuel pump, oil fed-return lines. $450

Well the smoke is not exactly coming out of the seals of the turbo from what we can tell. Since there's a small gap between the downpipe and the exhaust pipe, from there is where we beleive the smoke comes out. I'm taking the car to this exhaust shop to weld it today. We check that yesterday but it was very late, so I still need to be sure. My engine though, before didn't throw any smoke, so it's not the engine.

BLAHMAN240 It smell like burned oil, don't know how to explain the smell.

RYAN89CRX oil restrictor?, don't have a clue bro, I have to talk to the mechanic about that.

How bad is it gonna get if I leave it like that? or should I rebuild it, I mean the kit to rebuilt a turbo is like $70, so what should I do? a new turbo?
?????????????????????????????????

install an oil restrictor if you dont have one and see if the smoking goes away. its actually harder to "blow" seals than you think. for the most part, when you fix you over pressure problem, the seals will still work fine

oil restrictor - in line orifice that restricts oil as to lower the pressure. OEM Honda oil pumps put out 60+ psi of pressure, and the standard bushing-type turbo only needs about 10-25psi of pressure

does your return line have a kink in it ???? if it does that will make the oil blow by the seals too

its not hard to do it yourself. i rebuilt one of my turbo's. the expensive part is if you have to get it sent off to get balanced but if you mark the wheels and put them back on exactly how they came off it won need to be rebalanced
