Wheel weights & recommendations?

I'm looking at getting some 14" or, more likely, 15" aftermarket wheels for my EX and am wondering what a "good" weight is for them?

I'll be autoXing it, so the lighter the better, but I am on a budget. I've seen weights ranging from 11-26lbs, just curious what a decent weight is... 15 lbs?

I want white, 5- or 7-spoked rims, so if you know of any brands to check out, let me know...

I got a set of 15" maxxim (owned by konig) oxygene wheels. I think they make these from 15" to 17" and they weigh 14lbs. I paid 79 US dollars a piece for them brand new at discount tire. I love the wheels, especially after i pulled that gay oxygene sticker off. I had 14" inch eagles and they weighed like 16 pounds a piece...but i could notice a difference immediately...the tires helped too im sure. Once this car is not my daily driver i hope to be autocrossing some too...but the more i think about it, i want to do a big brake kit, and they dont make too many for 15" wheels...also, i just got my car dropped 1.5" and it looks smooth with the 205 tires i have on now, but on some hard corners im rubbing a little, putting 195s on i think is gonna make it look like the wheels are tiny...so IMO i would go with a set of 16"s if you plan to race b/c brake upgrades will be easier, plus the 16s will look better, although ride slightly harder, that is the best compromise.

cool link - thanks.

My biggest concern with going to 16"s is the increased rotational inertia as well as decrease torque that going to a larger diameter wheel might cause...

Anyone know how much the stock steelies weigh?

its not so much as the size, but more the weight. it doesnt take more weight to turn a larger wheel...it takes power to turn a heavier wheel

Yes, I would defenatly check out the 15" Rota slipstreams, they are 12 lbs. They are cheap too and look nice.

the size is more of a torque factor than a weight factor for me - a smaller diameter wheel/tire combo will accelerate quicker, which I'll need for autoX. If I remember the SCC article, the times were close, but the 15" was still quicker than the 16" wheels.

I'll definitely check out the Rota's - anyone know a site for em?

thanx

As far as I know, the lightest wheels on the market are made by OZ Racing. At outr local shop a 17 inch OZ was lighter than a 15 inch spoon. It was also about 650 more per wheel, so you pay for what you get.

As long as you go with a 15 inch or smaller you should be fine. Anything over a 15 will start to slow you down.

yeah, price is a factor, so the OZ wheels are out. I'm looking at the ROTA C8s on www.jaydm.com - $440 for 4 15"s

Anyone do business with jaydm.com before? Experiences?
