I used to search up on this stuff when I was in high school and early college, but I'm out of the loop now. My dad is using a computer that is from the stone age. Literally. If I posted the specs, pictures, and what not (not that I will because I'm too lazy to make the trip out to their house just for those lol), you computer guru's on here would probably shoot yourselves.

My brother wants to re-do my old machine that's been sitting for months. I want to say no. Because it seems like custom computers that have rando parts thrown in seem to have more problems than worth fighting. So I'm wondering where I can look for a really cheap setup for my dad.

He doesn't need much. All he does is surf the web (cnn, check e-mail, watch videos, etc.), Microsoft Word / Excel, and downloads PDF files, and that's pretty much it lol. I think he uses the thing 3 times a week max. It needs to have wireless capability. Good capability too lol. He has a cheap 15" LCD monitor, a keyboard, and mouse. I just need a tower. Looking to spend as little as possible while still having a relatively quick machine.

I honestly don't know. I don't even know anything about computers anymore. At least not as much as I used to. There seems to be so many new brand names and crap. $300? Can you even buy just a tower for that much? Like I said, he needs bare minimum. As long as it has a solid wireless capability and can handle what he does, anything cheap that will last.

I'm not 100% sure my brother or I will buy a computer for him. I still have to bring this up to him, I haven't yet. I'm just searching first to see available options.

You should look into those super tiny computers. I think MSi and ASUS make them.. Tehy run for like 150-200 new.

edit; was off on the price a little. But here is what newegg has for ASUS's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006736 50001315 4018&IsNodeId=1&name=$200 - $300

John, talk with Jason and have him build you something. That's probably the best bang for your buck.
