I'm about to install this XM direct tuner kit for my panasonic head unit. There is a battery lead (yellow) and a power (ACC power) wires that needs to be connected. In a 99 civic what/where do I tap these wires into?

You could tap into the power port and then it would only power when the key is in the car.

On the driver's side there is a large (10ga) white for constant and another same size for ACC (black/yellow)

They're big and easy to find. You'll need a brown scotchlock

Could you just splice the wires and electrical tape them together?

Ugggghhh I hate that crap!

tape melts and just twisting the wires together is less than a positive connection.

Ideally you should strip, solder, and shrink tube it but that might end up dropping molten lead on your carpet

Sorry, I couldn't think of the right term. The power plug where the cig lighter would be. Take off the panel and tap into it's power line.

The brown scotchlock method I like. Nice and easy. Thanks Beelzebubba

uhhhh, why dont you just tap power and accessory behind the stereo and run it with the data cable that gets plugged in behind the deck and to the xm tuner?

or do the easiest, there are several acc plugs in the fuse box under the drivers side dash. a few standard female plugs and a light will tell you which is switched and which is constant. plug them in, and your done. no cutting, splicing, soldering required.

How would that be the easiest? He has to pull the deck to plug in the data cable behind the stereo. Three t-taps (power ground and accessory) and hes done. Run it to the tuner, clean it up with zip ties and hide the whole thing in split loom. I wouldnt run any more wire under the drivers side dash. They always fall out and look like crap in the long run

because when you run t taps off of a tiny wire with a tiny fuse, you tend to blow it. i tried running taps off of those stereo wires, they dont have enough amperage to run all that stuff correctly.

The amperage draw of the tuner box is only about 5 amps. Its completely safe to tap power behind the stereo. I seriously doubt it will blow the fuse
