Hey guys,

Ive been doing a lot of reading on the forums and liked what I've seen, I've also done some research on which car to purchase to have a bit of fun and tune the hell out of, what i discovered was for fairly cheap you can buy a honda civic and tune the hell out of it for fairly cheap considering the endless amounts of aftermarket parts.

Anyways I'm just wondering which Civic i should buy? my budget is about $4000-$5000.

I want to create something thats quick off the line, very good acceleration. I'm not to concerned about top speed and something that handles real well.

Im liking the Honda Civic Cxi

Cheers

If you really want to tune and get the most out of it you can try to find a 96-00 EX Civic coupe or sedan with a d16y8, convert to OBD1 and turbocharge then actually TUNE it and try to make 200hp, or any d16z6 92-95 Civic; however youll be doing lots of work. If you can find an OBD1 Integra, 94-95 or 96-01 obd2 and convert to obd1 and turbo as well as tune that you can get upwards 300hp reliably. Alternatively you can just get a Civic and do a motor swap, but whatever you do STAY AWAY FROM THE D16y7 nonVTEC motor. You wont get any power out of that even if you try.

I had a gutted 96 CX hatch with a full GSR swap and some nice bolt ons, all NA. That s**t was fun. I spun tires through 3rd gear, revved hard and pulled hard from a launch, but man, wheel hop... :(

Thanks for your help fellas,

Ive been on the carsales website and been looking through some integra's i can only find integers with the B18B2 engines in them, is this something id be able to convert to a OBD1 or not? Are the D16Y4 engines in the CX's not any good to tune up? Ive found a Greddy turbo kit from the states for a CX for $1500!!

Cheers

I just noticed you're from Australia, so I don't know how the legal stuff there is about modifying cars. To convert your car to OBD1 generally you'll just need the conversion harness and an ECU. If you don't know what you're getting yourself into, start researching.
