I'm currently working on replacing the head gasket for my 97 Civic LX (D16Y7). I removed the distributor and am now trying to fix a connection that broke off underneath it that was going into the head. Here it is...

The pieces that are circled used to be one part. It is to the right of the heater hose connection on the head. I tried using a wrench to get it off but someone who worked on the before me stripped it so I tried using vice grips with WD40. The black piece came out. Since the connector seems stuck on the bolt, I've even tried removing both (the connector and bolt) with a socket wrench but that is as far as the piece comes out from the head.
I need some advice. What is this part? Did I screw up big time? How is this supposed to come off? The break in the piece is actually pretty clean. It's not broken metal. It just looks like I bent the connector a certain way to pull out the black piece. Worst case, I can move on with the rest of the job and when it's time to put this back together, I can force it in there and crimp down the broken connector around the edges but I don't want to do that if anyone else has recommendations. Any help would be appreciated.
