Why no new Civic hatchback?

I have a 98 Honda Civic DX Hatchback (6th generation) and I like it very much - its style, size and feel. Compact and sporty. The 5th generation Civic hatchback also looks quite good.

The 7th generation hatchback doesn't look so nice, but it is still okay.
And now, Honda does not even make Civic hatchback anymore!
Why? Why? Why?

The Honda Fit is a nice hatchback but it is not sporty and does not have 'identity' like the 5th and 6th generation Civic Hatchback.

In fact, Honda cars nowadays look very boring and conservative. So sad.

I wonder if anybody here share my views.

I think that one of the only thing I dont like about EP3's is the shifter being on the dash.

perhaps Honda has gotten lazy and decided that releasing 3 different body variations of the same car isn't cost effective? Granted, who knows what car companies are thinking when they do what they do.

I like the 8th Gen front end, but the back end is just horrid.

It figures that Japan would once again deny us awesomeness on any level. That being said I kinda like it. Of course that also explains where a few of the local civic guys are getting their type-R stuff for their 4DRs....

as if any civic has ever been anything but conservative from the factory.

Hatch backs dont sell as well in the US as they do in other countries. Next time you see a 2 or a 4 door owner, slap them.

have you driven one? it has a smooth transition to every gear you change
I actually have not driven one. Im sure that it transitions smoothly, Im talking aesthetically its not appealing to me. I would LOVE to drive one, possibly even have one. However, if I am ever going to buy a K-series car, it will be an RSX.

because its functional and thats how they were the the old old models.

thats why so many manufacturers are releasing small hatch style cars.

Such as

And don't forget, most people look at the civic as an economy gas saver and to get you from point A to B. So people would be more inclined to buy a larger vehicle for more space and maybe to fit their family in it.
