Hey, do you guys know if HID's will dim as much as my halogens do when I turn my subs up? My lights dim like crazy right now, I have a capacitor and don't want to spend money on an alternator or new battery...I know their only 35w and I read somewhere that once their on they only draw about 3-4 amps as opposed to halogens which draw something like 15 at all times...I'm gonna buy HID's but I just wanna know what to expect... Thanks!

umm as far as hids dimmin ive never noticed if mine dim i know my interior light do slightly but. its def a good idea to upgrade your alt and battery. im sure the unsteady voltage would give your hids some problems down the road

hids use less power while running then stock headlights... they only use more power on igniter start... they also run cooler then stock

HID's have voltage regulaters built into the ignitor box. They shouldn't dim at all, but if there are continuous spikes I would figure that it's only a matter of time till they do...

I wouldnt waste your money on HIDs until you've upgraded the alternator. They might not dim at first, but your going to run into a lot more problems and they are going to wear out faster if the electrical system is going though all those spikes constantly. A cap is only really a Band-Aid for the system, where asan upgraded alt will keep everything healthier longer

but then again its your call, do you want your stuff to last, or just be hella bright...

So your saying it WILL damage the HIDs? And where would I be able to get a cheap but decent high output alternator and how much would it cost?

u dont even need a h/o alt. All that does is make sure your battery doesnt run out of juice from all the accessories. just get a decent cap and u wont have to worry about any of that.. mine went until i got a car and everything was fine

I have a 1 farad Phoenix Gold cap and my lights still dim quite a bit...i have a tantrum 1200.1 amp with 2 12" kaption SPL-1200s (600rms/1200peak each) Could it be that the cap isn't working properly? Is there any way to test it?:???:

i know ive seen alot of system that run a ton of power have an extra battery.. i have two mtx amps and three mtx 12" 4500 series.. and two caps.. my lights dont dim at all.. but i really dont pound them either.. if it is a digital cap it should tell u the readout on it.. if not maybe u should upgrade or go to a local audio shop and ask them.

Mine's not digital but I do have warranty on the system, i just don't wanna drive all the way to the store to get it checked out lol...is there any other way that i can check it myself?

like they said above caps really are a band aid, when you are running that much power "ideally" you should be running a seperate dedicated battery for your stereo, but who wants to deal with that?
