Will stock '90 LX Audio accept steering wheel controls?

Can I add the steering wheel controls to my standard OEM audio system that came with my LX? From the parts list and diagrams of the Si steering wheel, it looks easy to install the steering wheel controls, just not sure if the LX audio system can accept them or if I would also have to upgrade to the Si premium audio system. anyone know or done this?

since there werent audio controls on the steering wheels back in 90 for the civic, I'm guessing the op meant 09
