Windows, Door locks, Side mirrors HELP!!

Hello,

Problem : All my power windows, door locks, and side mirrors won't work correctly. When I first start up my car, sometimes they will work for about 2 minutes. Then they might no work again for a couple days. If one thing doesn't work (windows) then they all won't work (locks, side mirrors). Vice versa. It seems like If I use the power locks first then usually the windows will work for a little. I don't know if this is by chance or could mean anything.

Background information :
Sorry it's a bit of information, but I'm trying to give an accurate information regarding my issue. I've searched the internet and the forums before I decided to make a thread. I have an electric issue that has occurred from some time now. I can't remember for how long but it actually first happened a couple years ago. Some side mechanic did some body work on my car and fixed the issue. The first week I had it back, the problem occurred within 2 days then it was fine for 8 months. It still has remained with the same issue, I've been using the A/C and ignoring the problem. I've had to use my key to get in and out. I had to unplug the "security unit" (7.5A fuse) because my alarm kept going off when I used my key to get in because the remote control wouldn't unlock the doors.

I've seen many threads instructing to check the fuses, a wire being split, main unit being replaced. For the symptoms of my problem, it seems to be a grounding issue? It works then it won't. Making me think it can't be a blown motor or a fuse... am I wrong? I took my door panel off a couple days ago, driving home today I could see water coming through the weather stripping. A little bit of water, wondering if this could be a hint to a diagnoses or some insight to a resolution.

Car information:
1998 Honda Civic LX
Manual Transmission

As of now..
Yesterday, I checked most of my fuses by hand, everything was fine. My next step is using the light switch test on the fuses, and check the master switch wiring harness? Anyone know how to read a diagram to know which colors are suppose to light up.

Can anyone point me in the right direction..

Thanks in advanced,

JP =)

I recommend you download the service manual... Click ....Beginning on section 23-page 251, and also sections 120-141, you will find alot of info and circuit diagrams that will help you troubleshoot..Good luck

Thanks for the input, yeah i just downloaded it for the third time. Some of the diagrams are confusing, just looking for some guidance.
Update- I checked all the fuses with a test light, everything came back normal. I checked the wiring harness to the main control box and I got 3/4 (ON II) to light up. Which im assuming means, theres a cut or the power relay is bad. I pulled the relay, but i cant tell if its good or needs to be replaced.
On a sidenote, could this be related to ground (G551) that grounds all three of these problems.

Not sure what you mean here.

My guess, smart sir, is that you already solved your own problem:

Possibly the master switch on the driver's door? Is water getting to the switch? That is kind of hard to troubleshoot with the info but I would start at the master switch and also look at the molex plug between the driver's door and the car for possible bad conections.

Not sure what you mean here.

When the key in ON(II), then you check the terminals on the wire harness connector. To see if the master switch has voltage.

In reference, to G551 do you have any clear pictures on the exact location. The reference picture you posted, is the coupe. I have the sedan model, unless they're both in the same location. Should I sand the ground down and then re-tighten it for a better ground. I will try this when I get home.

Coupes and sedans are the same. Remove the driver's kick panel and, with a little looking around, you should be able to locate the ground connection based on the diagram.

To verify a G551 ground problem, use a multimeter to check for continuity to body ground from the black (ground) wire at the driver's door lock switch. Touch one meter probe to the metal frame under the dash and the other meter probe to the black wire.

Sanding and tightening the ground connection is fine. If that does not solve the problem, the ground wire may be broken.
