A/C removal in a 6th gen question

I have a question about removing the air condition in a 98 hatchback. I know that you have to have the a/c drained (already did, and had it done professionally), then remove the radiator/fan and all insulated lines, as well as the silver tank beside the windshield washer reservior.

now my questin is, the silver line that runs from the freon tank from the driver side, all the way to the passenger side, and to the firewall behind the battery. I've successfully removed the actual lines to the plugs behind the battery. I bought a A/C plug from Honda to cover the opening behind the battery. My question is, do you need to remove the old rubber plug and A/C connection to install the new one from Honda? The one from Honda appeared to be to big, but maybe I need to look again.

Is this confusing as sh*t?

Thanks in advance.

What old rubber plug are you talking about? When I took mine out, there was no rubber plug there, because thats where the actual air comes into the cabin of the car.

yea i would just take it out, you can also remove the whole unit from inside the car if you feel like it.

let me rephrase. theres a black gourmet and then inside is where the freon silver pipes connect. is it possible to remove that? maybe I need to take a closer look at it, or better yet, snap a picture.

Maybe he just dosent use it? Thats why I pulled my A/C out. I never used it, so why have something in there, taking up all that extra space and looking ugly, if its not needed or used? Plus, if he were to go trubo later on, he'd have ALOT more room to work with.

AC removal does not cause rpm fluctuation.

Maybe because he wants to.

Just pull the grommet and plug the hole. I plugged mine w/ duct tape. You can't even see the damn thing.

geez guys I know a/c removal should remove some parasitic drag but man do I love my ac when its hot outside. Esp since my car is black... GL w/ the removal although I'm sure that there are other things that would help more on power if thats what your looking for.

a/c has been removed for a long time fellas. somebody brought back a old thread to life. it was to just clean up the bay. i don't drive my car, and when I do, it's with the windows down.

the end result:

not to forget the extra fuel economy.

to remove the evaporator (the s**t behind the firewall you spoke of) go inside your car and remove your glovebox and remove the 5 or 6 nuts securing the box next to the blower motor, unplug the harness and simply pull it out. i just did one of these at work last week for a customer who's evaporator was leaking. it took me 20 min. tops.
