I'd do an S- dime or a sonoma. Bag it, body drop, and a small blocl swap.

the 4cyl s10 does aight gets 25 on the highway ... yotas get about 26 - 27 but the small yota trucks are overpriced like hondas .... and the s10 4 cyl is a REALLY good engine ... nothing like a honda but theres a few out there with 200k+ on em .... 94 and newer trucks got really good

nissans get aight too
oh no.

The 2.2 4 cylinder is the same OHV motor that Cavaliers come with.

I've seen some 200k examples. They rattle like diesels. They are prone to cracked cylinder heads

One magazine bolted on intake, header, exhaust, roller rockers, MSD, coils, and pulleys. They got it to dyno at 105 hp. Of course the S10 does get as good mpg as the Ranger 2.3 but the 8 valve Lima 2.3 has a better longevity record and the new DOHC 2.3 is similar to the Mazda 3's 2.3.

I'm thinking X-Runner (overpriced but good quality) Or Dakota R/T (12mpg FTMFL)

For the best in mpg and money, The best bet is probably going to be a new Ranger STX.

Same DOHC 2.3 as the Mazda 3 tuned for more torque (143 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 154 pound-feet of torque at 3,750 rpm) and 29 mpg

Close runner up is the Colorado Street pack:

185 HP SAE @ 5,600 rpm; 190 ft lb. 26 mpg...they been a bit pricier than Rangers though.

I've considered the S10 eXtreme or Sonoma SS. It would have to be a loaded stepside extended cab with the 4.3 because I hate that OHV 2.2 4 cyl. I still think I'd rather have the Dakota R/T even though I couldn't afford to feed the b***h

Meh :what: I think the primary problem with the 4.3 V6 is that any power mod you make can also be performed by the guy with the 8 cyl. for greater effect. It's also heavy cast iron.

At least you can get aftermarket parts for a 4.3 V6. If you have a 4.2l Ford or 3.7l Dodge, you are just going to be slow forever. :rolf:

I like the StreetPack Colorado. 185 hp! 2.9l 4 cylinder...just the power Rangers are significantly cheaper. Never mind the fact that the Ranger's V6 makes less power than the Colorado's 4:lol:

The 4-banger S10 Extreme, I kid you not, is the slowest automobile I've ever driven ....

I Know! Right!:rolf:

My dad had an old ass B2200 that he gave to my brother in law. It has 300,000+ miles on the original engine and I still think it could smoke a 4cyl eXtreme:lol:

I don't know, I think the slowest would be a Ram 1500 LWB with a 3.9 automatic. That mofo couldn't even bark the tires on polished concrete. :rolf:

You know s**t is bad when I am recommending a Ford over a Chevy.

Mazda made a B2600 with a Mitsubishi 4G54 block and a Mazda 12 valve head. Since the head was the weak part of the 4G54 in the Starion/Conquest, this could be an interesting engine to boost.

This would be the most depressing truck to drive EVER.

Low torque, high revving engine in a chassis that doesn't handle well and is heavy.
