Hey everyone im new here just picked up a 98 4dr Civic LX 5spd and was wondering what cheap things to do to it to help it look better and perform better. This is my daily car now and my 2000 Camaro SS is my toy car and where i want most of my money to go towards for mods. There are some things i would like to know though about the civic.

What engine does my car have and is it a decent one?

A good exhaust that adds power but has no rasp and doesnt make the car much louder?

best headlight bulbs to use stock style socket?

Difference in short shifter with one or two bends? Pictures here would also help.

also where could i get door handles and side molding the color of the car is it the EX cars that have that?

Im planning on getting a AEM intake and then just do maintenance change the belts and the plugs and oil.

Looking forward to browsing the boards here and learning about my new car it may be my daily driver but i still want it to look nice and perform well.

Thanks heres some pictures of my two cars.

Hey welcome to the forums,

The motor you have is a 1.6L SOHC D16Y7 (105HP). Basically if you want more power your best bet would be throwing a D16Y8 head on it and turboing it or a motor swap such as a B16a, B18c for example.
If your looking for an exhaust that makes a little noise look into the Greddy EVO2, Somthing thats quieter look into the APEXi WS2, Greddy SP2, RSR Exmag. I have the APEXi N1 which is loud I dont think your looking for that tho. Try searching youtube to find out what sounds best to you.
Possibly Ebay or you can search for them on google.
The short shifter makes your shifts shorter and makes it smoother, there for making them faster and more comfortable and also sits a little lower then the stock shifter. The single bend is like the oem shifter, it has a shorter throw then the dual bend making it faster depending on which company it is. The dual bend sits a little closer to the driver and most people will say its a little more comfortable. (Pics) http://robearracing.com/pd_skunk2_short.cfm
They came with the Civic EX, Sis. Maybe a junkyard or you can have yours painted possibly.
Id recommend a AEM short ram intake because of the easier installation and less risk of hydrolocking your motor.

In the future you can also try the search feature, Theres been many posts and chances are the topic has been talked about.
Hope that helps.
Any mods on the SS? Both cars Look pretty real clean.

Both cars are nice, I just installed a single bend short shifter and i'm very pleased with it. If I knew what a difference it was going to make I would have bought one a long time ago.

Go to photobucket.com make an account and upload pictures to there. They will give you a img code that you just copy and paste it on here.

I wouldn't mod that engine for performance, if you want performance, get a swap or turbo kit. Bolt-ons won't suffice.

But for exterior, you can do some minor and cheap things to make it look sick. Get a front and rear lip, do a DIY grille, and lower it.

Thanks Redline I think im just gonna add some appearance stuff and leave the rest. The SS is my baby and the reason for buying the civic. so far it has a full exhaust with cutout, Lid, motor mounts, and a tune. best run for it so far is a 13.1 at 107 but know that its not my daily driver its time for the real mods looking to do close to 500HP all natural with a built 350 LS1.

Yep np, you gotta spend a decent amount of money on the the D series to get quick whether it would be turbo or a NA build. Gotta respect those muscle cars, one of my freinds has WS6 and damn that thing has power. You should post up some pics and videos if you have any of it. Good luck with the honda, there pretty damn reliable and im sure that 30+mpg compaired to 18 is gonna be nice for daily driving.

I forgot to mention that you could paintmatch the moldings, sideskirts, and door handles; very minor but makes a difference IMO. Also DIY black housing headlights are sick.

Dont even waste your time on performance for the Civic.. keep it for what is is, a good daily driver that gets good gas mileage.. as for the SS, automatics arent any fun!
