Turbo...good/bad?

To all the CC members that have boosted cars or are planning on boosting one here's my question:

I use my car everyday and gonna keep using it everyday, so if I plan on boosting my car......

Would it still pass the smog check?
Would I have problems of overheating?
What's the average life of the engine(65000 miles right now) with all the services check regulary?

is it worth it?

......not that I'm gonna keep the car forever, but I would like to last a long time......

Thanks=)

so you cant blow a all motor engine?

if your tune is good you will have no problems.

A turbo application car will last a certain percentage, lets say 20, less than what a stock motor would last you, depending on the tune, and yes, how much you smash on it. If you do things right, you should easily see your engine make it to 150 I'm guessing.. I dont know where it would usually last to, but you shouldnt have a problem getting it to last, seeing that you have it tuned well, and at a moderate setting like 5psi, and not 19. :]. Gl with your ride :].
Spark: Its like drinking. It will cut down your life, but it makes things better :]. Drink moderately, or you could kill yourself :].

ignorance is bliss...

turbo motors make fine daily drivers, do it right the first time and you wont have any problems.

So with a GOOD tune I shouldn't have any problems, also driving like a 60-70 year old man is going to help even more......and racing once a while is ok?

but the other question is, would I have any problems with the cops? like, I've heard that the greddy turbo kit is the only one approved.....so if I build my own turbo kit(not greddy) I'm gonna have problems if the cops take a look at the engine?
I wouldn't like to get a fix ticket and having to take off the turbo and then putting it back again..........

I don't get your point.....I just want to know if by doing those things, being more cautious when I'm driving, not racing all the time, will make my engine last even more as if I do the opposite? That's it.....also with the cops......is it legal, the turbo or what do you guys do?

PS sorry if anyone get's offended by what I write.........

ive heard that you can get the greddy smog legal plate on ebay and that cali emissions pass it, but i dont like in cali so i dont have first hand experience. on a side note, i just went through emissions with a horrible tune and bad piston rings and i passed.

the GReddy kit is the only carb legal turbo kit for Cali. Also, GReddy will give you a mild and dependable turbo set-up that usually gets you the most life out of your engine. (there's always variables with engine life) It comes with a decent tune, decent power gains and its legal. lead foot, boost cravings, and custom kits are gonna create more variables

a turbocharged daily isn't a bad thing. i tend toward the saab mentality: small turbo, quick spool, gobs of torque, daily usability.

i've owned a turbo daily, i've got friends that daily their turbos, and honestly, other than a little more gas and running premium, i've never had any trouble, and neither have they.

yeah, i forgot about that kit. its usually a lil more expensive. anyway, depending on where you're at in Cali, cops know what should be under the hood. San Diego FTL the cops are ruthless down there
