The Story of How I Got the Car
I figured I would start a thread now since I am pretty far in the project and almost to the point I can say complete.
This is my 2nd 99 Civic EX Coupe. If you remember my last one
I had that car for 6yrs and went through a lot of changes and had a b16 motor gsr tranny in it before I sold it.
Thought I was not going to get into Honda's for awhile and instead mess with my nissan s13. But a good deal came up where I bought a 93 hatch. I drove this around for a little bit until a guy in VA Beach wanted to traded for a 99 Civic Ex that he had.
So now you know how I got this car. I didn't plan on getting another Green 99 Civic EX it just ended up like this. Before I started this car, I planned on keeping it after the build. But I have recently bought a house and selling this car will help pay off somethings that need to be paid. So after I finish this build I plan on driving it till it is sold, but will be for sale once I am done.
What I had to work with
Here is what the car looked like when I brought it home.
As you can tell by the exterior it had a tsunami front bumper, wing west side skirts and rear bumper. Also has altezza cf lights and 17 adr sokudo 8 rims, black house projector headlights.
The interior wasn't much better with spray painted interior pieces everywhere and the trunk carpet missing
I traded for this car because of what was in the engine bay. It had a b16 with a b16 tranny in it and the chassis only has 77,000 miles on it. When I got the car home and started it up (couldn't start it when we picked it up the battery was dead and it was COLD outside) the bottom end was knocking. This didn't bother me because I had a b18b bottom end I was building for this car.
Pics with the b16 in it.
The Motor Build
So this is what I had to start with. Few months went by of collecting parts and then I finally got the car towed to a friends house where we built the motor. I don't have pics of the motor build and swap but its fairly simple.
The motor specs are:
b18b bottom end (honed, hot tanked)
p30 piston on ls rods
new OEM Honda bearings and gaskets
pr3 b16 head with gsr cams
ITR Header
AEM v2 intake
ngk wires and plugs
b16 tranny with exedy stage 1 clutch, resurfaced flywheel
obd2b-obd1 jumper harness
p72 ecu (currently but may get a chipped ecu before its all over with)
2.5 custom exhaust (currently looking for a ITR Oem muffler or RSX type-s for a stealth look)
Like I said I don't have many pics of the actual build and the swap. But here are a few after pics
Bought a House Now What
Once I got the motor built I was looking for parts to replace all the crap I didn't want on the car. Then a opportunity came a long to buy a house so we did that. The project seized halt. Two months later and finally moved and settled in I began work on the car.
I sold the tsunami kit, wheels, lights, interior painted pieces. I went on a shopping spree. I picked up 99-00 OEM tail lights, OEM 99-00 Headlights, OEM front bumper, Oem Rear Bumper, OEM sideskirts, jdm fog lights, spoon style lip, SI wheels, various interior pieces I needed to replace, Trunk carpet, Dual Bend Short Shifter, GSR Shift Knob, OEM Fenders (others had dents all in them) JDM Corner Lights
I don't have pics of all the mods I picked up but I will eventually put them up here before I install everthing.
Here is a pic of the trunk carpet installed for a test fit
Here is a test fit on the OEM Tail lights
I was about the install all these parts, thinking in the back of I will need to paint all these parts. The bumper was black, the fenders are blue, the rear bumper is white. The car shows its age in the paint and I was going to paint the whole car again the same color. Searching for paint I came up on a great deal for black paint. Paint code came from a 05 tahoe. Its a nice black with gunmetal flake.
So instead of installing all of these parts I had laying around, I started taking things back apart.
The Painting Process
I plan on doing the paint right and paint the bay, jams and trunk. So I started tearing the engine bay apart. Taking out the battery first and then going from there.
After a few hours in my new garage (one reason for buying the house) I ended up with this
The pics really don't do it justice but everything is removed or detached from its mounting points. The engine harness is disconnected from the firewall and sitting on top of the motor. The driver side harness is unhooked from the engine harness and laying on the floor.
The owner before took out most of the AC but I finished what he started and took out the rest. I also took out the washer fluid reservoir. The fuse box near the battery is loosely sitting there. We have a spray gun that is little and sprays lesser amounts for smaller areas. This is what we are going to use for the jams, engine bay and trunk. Plan on spraying the engine bay with the motor still in the car and anything near the frame will be tied back out of the way. The difficult part about leaving the motor in the engine bay and all the brake lines is the firewall. Going to do my best to tape everything and get everything out of the way. But this smaller spray gun really helps out getting in smaller places.
I continue on to the interior.
The interior was really easy and what you see done was within a hour. The trunk is completely gutted now also. It was late and I had to work in the morning so I don't have the best pics. I didn't feel like opening the garage door and letting bugs in to get better and more pics.
So I will leave you with two exterior pics of what the current state of the car is. Hopefully we can spray the jams/engine bay/trunk area this weekend. Once I get that done I am doing the wire tuck in the engine bay, putting that all back together and put the interior back in. We are doing the jams and stuff in my garage but painting the rest of the car will be at a friends garage setup for painting cars.
Stay tuned for more progress pics.
