Anyone here running Ubuntu? I am thinking about getting this and just wondering if there was anything that I needed to know before installing

Have you ever used a Linux distribution or Mac before? You'd probably need to get used to using the Terminal a lot. That's all I had trouble with.

Why mention a Mac?
Mac is based on Linux, but no where close.

Yeah, it's pretty easy, just read the direction and do as it says, and you'll be good..

If you don't follow it, you can really f**k things up.

Remember, Linux isn't like windows where if you try to delete a file that cruicial to the system it won't allow you too.. Linux WILL.

Did you run dual boot? Why did you stop using it?

I know Windows has terminal as well, not sure if its the same as on a Mac or Linux though. I think I am going to try and use my brothers old computer if he doesnt want it anymore as a test computer just to make sure I dont f**k anything and I can figure out everything and not have to worry about not having a computer for a while.

Thanks for the info on the Dual boot. Def not interested in the Vista dual. I would rather stick with my Xp instead.

If it is the same terminal that is on Windows I will use it since that is how I connect to my work computer when I am not there.

I am probably closer to a normal user than you might think. I am getting my degree in Information Systems and currently do tech support for a 3rd party brokerage company. I just wanted to try and learn some different things on my own just so i have an understanding on how things work.

Ohh yeah? I'm majoring in Information Systems too. What school you go to? Have you tried installing Ubuntu yet? Let me know how it goes.

Northern kentucky University. I live in OH and commute. its like 15-20 min drive. havent got it it yet. the desktop that I am gonna use is really shitty and I cant get a internet connection so i need to play with that first. Everything needs to be cleaned up and updated before i can do anything. It will prob be the weekend till i can get everything done because of class, studying for midterms and work. Not to mention i have the house to myself until next mon so partying is a must, esp when the parents said you can have a party.

Excellent OS, running it right now actually. Works great, and its very very straightforward. I'd recommend it.
