I got mine finished saturday, and yesterday/today took it on a 300 mile each way roadtrip to break in the clutch. Mine is shifting like a champ :thumbs up

The 17 mm bolt he is referring to is the one that is right there by the rear mount on the back of the block. it threads from the block to the transmission.. That bolt was easy imo, it was those damned 19mm bolts on the rear mount that gave me trouble :(

another problem I had was with the driverside axle hitting the flywheel (inspection) cover. It made a nasty grinding noise, but with some "persuasion" from a screwdriver, its all good now.

Ill probably make a thread soon ;)

Ok guys, heres whats going on. We got the auto tranny off, after spending about 5 hours trying to break free a bolt. We ended up grinding/cutting the head off it, and sliding it out. Its the 17mm bolt right above the drivers side axle, right next to the rear T bracket. The flywheel/clutch/pressure plate is all bolted up, but I dont have an alignment tool, so we cant get the tranny to mount up against the block. Today Im gonna pick one up, and when I get outta work Im gonna get it all aligned and get the tranny mounted up.

All the wiring inside the car is done. The only thing Im confused about is the reverse light sensor. The write-up Im following says I have to run the 2 wires that are on the 14 pin auto shifter harness out to the reverse sensor. Why is there a reverse sensor plug on the auto harness, if I have to run the wires out to it?

The "windplate" is 95% cut off. I ran out of cut-off wheels. I was using the reinforced ones (for the dremel), so now Im gonna try to use just the regular ones and hope they are strong enough.

Once I get the tranny mounted, and the plate cutoff, I'll be all finished. Looking at tomorrow night at getting this beast running. :thumbs up

heres what i did in my car and my buddys car. sry if its confusing.
im sure you know what wires on the shifter plug to use for the reverse..the yellow and green ones under the two thick black wires. look at the plug that isnt used anymore on the ecu. there are a red and white wire that are basicly right next to each other. either pull em out of the plug or cut them. that plug is all auto s**t and u dont need it anymore. go into the engine bay. if you remember two plugs that went into the solenoids on teh front bottomish of the tranny the one that was closest to the outside or basicly the one with longer wire..cause both plugs on the tranny are red and white wire, imagine that. but youll need some extra wire for the inside of the car, i just ran those wires under the carpet and you can obviously see the mess of unused wires on my tranny lol. hope this helps, i tried explaining the best i could.:???:

Ok, so lemme see if I understand this. Run the reverse sensor wires from the auto (no used anymore) ECU plug, out to the reverse sensor? Or do I run them to the auto 14 pin plug reverse sensor wires?

sry for the confusion. you take the green w/black stripe and the yellow wire from the auto shifter 14pin plug get some extra wire like you saw in my pic(the red and black wire) and connect those to the cut red and white wire on the auto ecu plug that i have shown in the pic. then find the plug in the engine bay from the old auto tranny and wire that to your sensor. in reality, you do have to run the yellow and green w/ black stripe from the 14pin auto plug directly to the sensor on the transmission. but instead of messing with MORE wire and going through the firewall, why not use a set of wires that arent being used anymore AND that are already ran through the firewall. hope this clears stuff up. if not just IM me man and ill be back after 9 tonight. i really wish i took pics of my buddys when i wired his up yesterday

Theres already a plug for the reverse sensor on the auto tranny harness.....dosent that run to the 14 pin auto shifter plug? So all I'd have to do is connect the auto shifter wires to the ECU wires....correct? And just plug in the reverse sensor on the tranny....?

That plug you're talking about doesnt work. I have that one plugged into my reverse light sensor, and i still have no reverse lights..

according to luserkid's writeup, you have to connect 2 wires (on the big plug by the shifter) to the reverse sensor on the trans. It has to be physically hardwired if im not mistaken, but im going to go to the junkyard and get the plug that goes on the reverse sensor and run the wire through the firewall.

Wiring!

Now this is pretty easy, but then again i love electrical. But all you need to do is connect 5 wires total. One of the plugs that you disconnected from the auto shifter is a 14P plug. Cut the plug off. Your going to have a 2 thick blk wires and 1 blk/blu wire, Solder those 3 together. Those together lets your car think its in park and releases the key and starts your car. Important

Next there is a yel/red wire and a grn/blk wire. Doesnt matter what way they go they do the same. These are for your reverse lights. Connect some line to them and run it through the firewall to your reverse light switch. And your set.

So the plug on the end of the switch is useless then? I gotta cut it off and hardwire the wires in....PITA if you ask me.

UPDATE: Got the new tranny all bolted on, the axles back in, and 1/2 the suspension back together. All thats left is the wiring of the reverse sensor, finishing up the windplate/linkage, and putting my dash back together. Looking to be done tonight.

:woot:

The only part you'd really need help with is installing the pedals (maybe), and dropping the auto tranny, and putting in the 5spd tranny. Everything else can be done by one person. Just having another set of hands or two makes things move faster. Just be ready to have your car down for a couple of days.
