I picked up a Y8 head over the weekend, and I figured before I put it on, I would give it alittle port and polish. More of just a "gasket match" than a full port and polish. I wont be doing the combustion chamber, just cleaning it up alot. Just finished up the exhaust ports. Didnt worry too much about getting them "gasket matched", b/c Im more worried about the intake ports. Im going to take my time with the intake ports, and make sure its 100% smooth and whatnot. Im using a Dremel, and the sanding wheels and grinding stones. Anywho's, heres some pixors! When I get more done, Ill keep it updated! :thumbs up

Haha. Thats what happens when you live in the northeast, and in the winter you have no other place to work on car stuff.

In all honesty, its not all that complicated. Bigger intake ports/runners = more air = more powa. You just have to be careful when porting things out. If you go too far, theres no going back. ;)

Yep. Thats my "I need a light...." lamp.

Yea. All I need to do is wire up the Vtec solinoid, and thats it. The Vtec head adds another 28hp or so. Im not trying to see any huge gains with the port/polish. Im just doing it that way I have something to do to pass the winter days.

The oil is like that b/c its been sitting for awhile. Its normal. If it dosent add 28hp, then how come a Y7 is 106hp, and a Y8 is 128hp or so....?

nice job, now just add a line of four or five golf ball dimples leading to the combustion chamber to add some turbulence and you'll be golden.

Yea, the head has 86,000 miles on it, and the oil is BLACK. When I pulled the Vtec solinoid off to clean it out, it was really black and runny. I really dont feel like pulling out the valves and whatnot, b/c I dont want to take the chance of them not seating properly after its all said and done. With only doing the intake/exhaust ports, it'll just flow abit better. It wont add tremendus gains, but then agian, Im not looking for any big numbers right now.

Sorry to break it to you but the reason its all orangey golden brass color up there is due to lack of lubrication they were starving that head cause was little motor oil they had to burn on all the little parts and piece instead of lubricating like it job the oil was ehtir old as crap or just never changed too often that was causes the head to go that color,I would give that head a thoro look through make surey ou dont have any small hairline stress cracks in it and,I would replace the full valve train.
