Piecing together your own turbo kit has many benefits, some being that it is cost affective and better suited to your specific application.
The following is a brief list of my build and is only an example, nothing else:
i am boosting a stock d16y7 (the non vtec 107hp beast)
Goal: To have a reliable boosted d16 with the lowest cost possible
Piecing together my own kit and have been around the $1000 mark
-greddy manifold $99
-garrett t25 $125 (internally gated, shop around good deals can be found)
-custom dp $200 (have not purchased, guessing on amount)
-fmic $99 (ebay bar and plate intercoolers do the job fine)
-piping $90 (again ebay pipes are fine)
-bov $100 (should allot for a decent bov, compressor surge will shorten life of turbo)
-rebuilt dsm 450s $110 (i want some near new injectors that have been tested)
-resistor box/plugs $15 (a resistor box can be made for about $10, plugs can be honda obd1 or dsm's)
-Manual Bst Con. $35 (ebay mbc should be fine)
-Oil lines $50
___________________________________________________________________
Total for hardware: $923

___________________________________________________________________
Then go onto tuning (which i will be doing myselft):
-p06 $100 (came with 4 bar map, nokia datalog, chipped by xenecron)
-ostrich $175
-lc1 kit $130 (this is a wideband, replaces your o2 sensor, NEEDED item)
-obd2>obd1 $50 (ebay jumper harness is perfectly fine)

Total for self-tune: $455
• So all together i have spent about $1,378 total for my hardware and tuning tools
• Keep in mind that any ebay kit you buy will not be complete
• The above is my example of a turbo kit with the cheap price tag without the expense of reliability and
quality
• Is there any NEW turbo kits for this price? yes, but again keep in mind that this price includes tuning!
• Prices will vary: such as i have to buy a better-than-stock exhaust, upgrade my clutch, better intake
manifold (the y7 sucks balls), choice of ems, etc.
But the main rule in boosting any car is that a person must RESEARCH! How else are you going to know what parts you need?
I hope this helps to give some of you better insight on the process of turboing your d,b,k,f, or whatever series engine.![Wink ;) ;)](/forum/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
