both me (94 gsr) and my brother (95 civic) are having problems with our clusters

MINE - the tach is typically alright, but the speedo will sweep and bounce all over the place (will only work properly for a short time hit and miss, or it will not work at all. when it doesnt work at all, my odometer doesnt move). also, i noticed one day driving down the highway at about 80, the odometer was moving aprox. twice as fast as it should (id go a mile and itd say about 2 miles). idk if this is a wiring issue (as im also having problems with my starter, even after putting a new one in, it will just click and not start randomly), or if its the cluster. originally i thought it was the VSS, but im doubting that now.

HIS - the tach bounces around and/or goes way too high. everything else seems to be ok.

if anyone can put the pieces of the puzzles together so i dont have to replace things i dont need, it would be lovely.

park further away from each other because one of your cars is obviously contagious.

I've driven the teg a few times, but the speedo thing won't happen for me. However, I did get a new battery yesterday (not to solve this issue though) and made a four hour trip today with no speedo freakouts. I checked the VSS yesterday to see if it was loose but it was nice and snug.

Your brother's issue is either the cluster or the vss.
If you have the service manual, page 11-176 area, there is a flow chart on what wires to test to see if their is a pulse coming from the vss or not. Also to check if any of the wires are bad coming to the vss This would tell you if you have a bad vss or if the problem is in the cluster. Also I think the haynes manual goes through the same steps, not sure the page.

In your case stealth I am not sure. You can go through the same steps of checking the vss. If that passes then it would be matter of checking the cluster next I guess.

Hope this helps,
Nylore

I had/have a vss issue myself and I took the vss out of the tranny, used carb cleaner to make sure the shaft did not have any oil/debris or in my case a back wear line on the shaft. I placed the vss into the tranny and it was still not working right after. However it did work the entire drive to work today.

Hope this helps
