alright me and my friend want to do something thats gonna occupy some of our summer so i was like, yo lets turbo my civic.
i need some input on what turbo to run. i was thinking about a T3 or T3/T4. im only wanting to run about 7-8 lbs of boost (the stock internals should hold this right?) . my target hp is around 190.
i have a d16y7 so any info and a write up on a complete install would help alot.
thanks

There is no reason to buy vitaras for stock rods. It is the rods that are weak

If you go the Vitara route buy the ones that come with rings, but make sure they're Honda Civic rings, and not Suzuki rings. Vitara pistons are actually from a Suzuki Vitara, don't know if you knew that or not. Anways, they're the same size for any D, and will drop right in, no mods needed. They're 8.5:1 compression, not forged, but made of some other material (forget what it's called) and are stronger than stock D pistons. You can get rods with the package as well, for about $250 all said and done. Pretty damn cheap setup if you ask me. Keep in mind that some aftermarket rods require you to carve a bit on the crank to fit right, but there's many that don't need that. While you're down there in the block I would check your bearings and make sure they're in good condition, but probably swap them out anyways. Put some ARP headstuds in while you got it open, do a new OEM headgasket, and bolt the head back on. I wouldn't worry about doing any head mods, it's not really worth it unless you're looking for huge power. There's tons of information on these Vitara setups, they are commonly called Panda motors, don't ask me why. Try some sites like www.d-series.org or www.turbod16.com

Here's a piston and ring setup

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CIVIC-VITARA-TURBO-PISTONS-D16-SI-RINGS-ZC-D16Y-CRX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33623QQihZ006QQitemZ160235254019QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Then here's a complete setup, seems a bit pricey, but I haven't looked into it enough to know. This one comes with pistons, Eagle rods, ARP rod bolts, rings and bearings.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-Honda-Civic-Turbo-Vitara-Pistons-Forged-Rods-Rings_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33620QQihZ005QQitemZ150243723865QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW#ht_3427wt_0

Search a ton on those sites I gave you, you'll find all the information you'll need. Personally I would try to find some pistons and such on there. I'm sure there's lots of people that have given up their projects and are letting their parts go cheaper than you can get on Ebay.

Hope this helped

It's funny that he is asking what he needs to make a kit and you are telling him to swap his pistons. He knows nothing about turbos; I think it would be safe to say he knows nothing about swapping pistons either.

If you want to do this the right way, then stay off e-bay.
Your motor is fine the way it is and you can do the 6-7 psi.
Just make sure it is healthy.
Upgrade your fuel components.

A T3 is more then enough for you. Now you need to find a manifold. If you must buy one from e-bay then get the cast one not the tubular "I will snap in half in a month" one.

You’re going to need lines for oil and things like that. Here are some sites where I get my stuff:
http://stealthmodeperformance.com/
http://tunertoys.zoovy.com/

They are really great places to get turbo parts.
O yeah, for the love of god do your research!!!
It will not take much to blow it up....................

Ebay has many great quality parts, not all Ebay stuff is crap. He didn't say what goals he wanted, so depending on his goals he may need pistons.

No, he wanted 190 whp so, a t3 would be perfect. But here's anothe question, is emmisions a concern? Considering it will spool up very quickly.

He will need rods first..............The weak link in a D series motor is the rod.

Tell me what good stuff e-bay has for turbos?
I can only think of the intercooler and the cast manifold. Other then that the SS autocrome manifold and turbos suck.

Yeah rods are the weak link in D series. Should have expanded more, I just meant rods/pistons.
