Does 250lb really make a difference?"

I have a custom sub box made for my civic that a buddy and me made. With the box, subs, plywood for amp mountage, it all together weighs roughly 250lbs. I have taken it out a while ago because I thought it really slowed my car down. Now I know this is alot of weight but does that really make a big difference or was me getting slower just in my head? I know I won'/t be the fastest 6 gen hatch out there but it would be nice to know, because I would like to put it back in without costing me to much in the speed department, not that I won'/t be going over the limit:twisted:.

that setup weighs probably a little less than having 2 friends in the back of ur car. no real difference unless ur an all out racer

i can tell a difference for sure if there is 2 people in my car. pulls way harder by myself than with 2 people (plus myself) in it.

your civic weighs between about 2250 lbs... 250 lbs is 11.1% of that weight. imho, that's quite a bit of extra weight... pretend it's sales tax and see how you feel about it ;)

I can feel the difference when Eran's in my car and he doesn't weigh that much, so yeah, it's a decent amount of weight to bolt into the car.

unless your out there trying to race everybody, id rock the subs. also keep in mind that extra weight also affects your gas milage.

A little overkill on the boom-boom, no?
lol

to the OP - It makes a difference yes ... but its up to you, do what you want =) if you want the speakers leave em in, who cares if it slows you down a bit, if you want to be that little bit faster leave em out ... =)

Just leave them in the car...if you like them, then that is what matters...who cares about how fast it goes, not trying to put you down or anything, but if your car had a lot of work done to it to make it faster, then you would probably know that less weight affects how fast it is, but I don't think that is the case here...it does not sound to me like you are just out there racing or anything, or that your car is even "fast" in the first place...btw...I was in the same boat as you deciding on whether or not to go ahead and put a sub/box in, but decided to go with it because my car is not fast, and a sub box will never make a difference for me...

get the sub. its not that big of a deal. i would rather go slow and thump then a little itty bitty faster and have to imagine the bass. haha.

See, I see it the opposite. I'd rather not have crappy bass. Most of the time when I hear a car with subs... it sounds bad. So sounds bad + heavy = double no. Since just with Eran in the car I can feel the car accelerates slower, I can imagine I get worse gas mileage too, and I'd rather get good gas mileage. Some upgraded speakers are fine for me.
