The benefit is being able to tune your car with the stock obd1 ecu.

It is by far the easiest way of upgrading your engine management.

Now if you car is stock, just keep the OBD2 setup. If you are planning to boost the car or do a crazy built motor swap. Then look into converting to OBD1 and having your car tuned on one of the OBD1 ROM editors.
