so bottom line what does dyno charts say is the best intake on the market 4 civics
depends what you call "best". some have a good peak gain but with losses in torque across the lower power band. some have good low-mid gains with peak losses...

my experience says the best intake is the stock airbox with a performance drop in filter

aftermarket induction kit

I have read everybody's comments on this thread and this is my first post, but I have an ek4 civic vti and despite the comments of "leave it stock" I have decided to go with a AEM short ram. I live in the UK where it is a lot cooler and I think the weather over here will have some effect - but I am hoping to gain 3-5hp.

I dont really care if this doesn't happen as I know that the "induction roar" that I will get from the kit will sound amazing - I used to have a CRX 1.6 16v non-vtec and I put a cheap ebay kit on that and I thought it made a good difference to both performance and sound.

Cant wait till my AEM kit arrives - and i'll put up pic when fitted.

I was just wondering if I can take the resonator box of the stock are filter out? The one that is close to the headlights. I'm not sure if that box is important but it looks like an space hogger. Would it be louder if that box remove?

yes, if you remove the resonator it basically gives you the same sound of an intake (whole point of an intake IMO) but you still have the stock box. i have a stock box with a K&N drop in with a removed resonator in my 93 LS and it sounds just as good as any car with an intake. performance? i installed new AEM intakes on both my civics and you really can't notice any performance. seriously, how can you feel 1-2 at most hp from adding an intake to a stock engine? buy an intake for the sound/looks, and if you have the other mods to warrant such an upgrade, then the performance. otherwise, stock box / removed resonator does the trick for me!

a that true that cold air intake are more dangerous on wet season? Floods can mess up the motor.
Any picture with a d series resonator remove? I want to see how it looks like because I don't know what to do with the stock plastic tube.

yes, a cold air intake can potentially suck up water if you drive through a deep puddle, creating hydro-lock in your motor. basically its instant death for your engine. you can possibly avoid that problem if you use an air-bypass valve somewhere on the intake tubing, the closer to the throttle body the better

Yeah but your intake has to be SUBMERGED in water in order for it to kil the motor. Hydrolocking is rare anyways, Not many puddles out there that are 2' high.
