2000 grille install diy?

I got an OEM SI grille for my 2000 civic. Is there a DIY or anything to get this installed on. I'm kind of a noob I know, but I gotta start somewhere. I know the bumper has to come off and I have never had to do that so I'm not sure..

...or I can have someone do it for $20. Which isn't worth it!

any help is appreciated

It's really easy to do, there are clips and screws for the grille and bumper on top, two bolts on the bottom, and one screw on each side holding the bumper to the fender.

Edit:forgot about the 2 screws, i removed mine saw no use for it it was fastened pretty nice from the top and wouldn't budge

Did you buy just the inner mesh piece or the whole thing (inner mesh piece and outer trim piece)? Only reason is that you can't use the Si inner mesh piece attached to the stock Civic outer trim piece. It doesn't fit.

Someone that does a lot of work on civics just corrected me and said you had to take the bumper off. Before that I didn't think you had to, so I suppose I was right the first time. But I did search by the way, there was only diy to fabricate your own.

I bought the mesh and outer piece. I didn't buy any screws or anything, I am going to have to buy a few more screws to put the new grille together.

and then i corrected myself by stating I removed those screws so it only applied to me. Hence the "EDIT" on the bottom on my response. no biggie, just trying to help.

You can use the old one's
My grille is missing a lot of the screws though, on 1 part of my grille it requires 9 but on the SI it needs 16. So I mean I will probably be fine, but I would be missing quite a few screws..

dude its so easy
Oh, thanks for the help.

So those little clamp type things surrounding the screws on top of the grille are easy to get off? and then there other screws around it..?

ok listen 5 plastic clip on the top under the hood take them out...then there are 2 screws one goin up the bumper into the fender there is one on each side then there are 2 10mm bolt on the bottom and 2 Phillips head screws then the bumper will come off and then there are screws holding the grill on take them out and swap grills and then reinstall the bumper

So I DO have to take the bumper off. Mixed message by everyone. Well okay, that definitely helps and should do the job for me. How do you unclip the clips? I looked at them the other day, I guess it would be self explanatory if I looked at them a bit better huh?

Thank youu!

edit: okay, the 7 clips - easy
the 10mm bolt - easy

i just spent 2 minutes looking and those are all easy, but i didnt happen to see the 2 other screws. My car is so low and I was in my garage so that might have been why I guess. But I won't be able to get a screw driver down there!

everybody seems to have different experiences replacing their grill. I didn't have to remove my bumper either but a lot of people say that they did. I'm sure after a quick inspection you'll find out yourself whether you need to remove yours or not

you DO NOT need to take off the bumper. get a flashlight and reach up under the bumper and feel for the screws that hold the grille to the bumper. not hard to do. then you can remove the clips on the top of the grille rather easily, and if you break them then zip ties will hold it just fine as stated above. i had zip ties on mine for a while also.

So reach up under the bumper from the front or from the engine bay?
The clips were very easy to take off, I doubt I will break them. But you never know...

up from underneath the front bumper, directly under the grille.

Maybe the 96-98 bumpers are different. The bumper on my 2000 wraps all the way and overlaps parts on the underneath of the car. I was able to pull the top of the grill out, and as I was taking a screw off the whole thing popped off except for one. So then it easy to get that one out. The new grill didn't have screws, so it wasn't a problem to get back on.

yeah, I found it would be way too much work and strain to try and do it without taking the whole bumper off.

It's easy to get it off anyway

While I was doing it I thought about how if I had smaller hands the job would be easier. That's probably why NYGraFFit1 got his little brother to do it.
