Ok a friend of mine has a 98 hatchback with a ls/vtec in it and he wants to go turbo. Im gonna be in charge of the build but the car will be taken to a tuner once we finish putting it together.
Here r a few pictures of the engine:

have to take care of any problems with the engine now, prior to turbo charging it, Being that it is my first LS/Vtec, Any ideas on this leak?

Now this will be my first time dealing with this engine but this is the way this build is gonna go, first of all the engine will remain stock (for now) all we doing is installing a turbo set up on it then we will take the car to a tunner.

Now we that said, our goal is to build the turbo set up for the goal that we want but knowing that we can only run low boost since the internal of the engine will remain stock.
Here is where I need you guys help, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
We are gonna be ordering everything that we need for this set up and would like to order stuff right the first time, NOW, rather than upgrading later.
So the list goes like this:

THE KEY OF THIS PROJECT IS, To buy just what we need right the first time, in the process save some money so that we can use it on the stuff that really matters

(1) Injectors (bigger the better, what will be a good the best choice? Keep in mind that the car, WILL BE TUNE after the set up is intstall, 1000cc are this good or should we order them bigger?
(2) Turbocharge??? we would like to order the biggest turbo for this set up now (a turbo that is good for now and also a turbo that we can keep after we build the engine (future). We would like it to have the flange in the rear that you can connect the downpipe with a C clamp insted of bolts also we would like the turbo to have the fitting for the gate. For the downpipe probably 3" at least.
Theres probably a lot of combinations out there so please let us know what they are so we can decide.

(3) Turbo Manifold??? well the a/c is already gone, pretty much we have the space. All we have to decide cast iron/tubing manifold? position of the turbo (up, down ect.....)

(4) Intercooler??? biggest that we can fit on this chassis, 98 hatchback. size of the piping? ect.......

(5) Wastegate/BOV, ok guys in my d16z6 set up im using wastegate 38 and the bov 50. being that this is a bigger engine that breaths better so we keep that size of gate/bov or should we order the upgrade version, if this are ok that is good, so we can save some money.

(6) ignition?? is the one from factory ok for now? if it is, we would leave it like that, we rather use the money for something else.

Like I mention before, I have a turbo d16z6 is there anything different turbo set up wise in comparison with a ls/vtec engine?

other stuff to know/be aware as well so that we can order now IF IS NEED IT.

Oil lines (is there anything different with the oil lines?) Map sensor, fuel pump ect.....

This guy wants to start ordering as of yesterday, we just want to make sure that everything that we order is RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

Thanks a million guys and please help us out here so we can get start it right away!!!!

1. 1000cc injectors are WAY to big for a stock setup lol.....if you want to stay stock you can push the b series motor to 300whp safely......i would say 450cc or 550cc would be a good choice......

2. i would look into a t3/t4 turbo .....look for a 50 or a 57 trim.....57 trim if your going to build the motor in the future....try to look for a garrett, greddy, turbonetics, or somethen other than xspower.....they are cheapo turbos

3. turbo manifold depends on what you like......i would go with a topmount or a ramhorn if you have the money......other wise get a log manifold.....they work just as good but are cheaper......

4. intercooler size also depends on what you want.....get a bigger one if your gonna run a lot of boost......if you run a big intercooler on low boost your gonna have a lil more lag......for piping.....i would go 2.5" .......on intercooler piping it sometimes is better to have smaller piping......so the air can move faster to the intake.....

5. wtf is wastegate 38? and bov 50? for a wastegate use a external wastegate as they have a better chance of not having any boost creep or spike.....for the bov, just use what sounds best to you......i love the greddy type s......thats what i got

6. stock honda ignition i heard is good up to like 400whp.....so i wouldnt mess with it

if you plan to push more than 200whp i would suggest on getting a walbro 255 fuel pump......the stock map sensor is good up to 11psi......so if you plan on pushing more than 11psi get a bigger map sensor !!!!

otherwise do a lot of RESEARCHING.....turboing takes a lot of RESEARCH.....otherwise you will blow up the motor......good luck

He means a 38mm wastegate probably a tial. and i believe tial makes a 50mm bov.

Thank you guys for your reply!!
lets see if I can give you more info.

HP goal???
whats the most you can do on a stock LS/Vtec? This should be our goal for now.

Another question guys, is it possible to build a turbo set up for about 500hp on a stock engine, by this I mean have the turbo set up for the goal of 500hp + even thou our engine can only handle what ever hp a stock engine can handle. Once again we just want to buy the right turbo set up for the optimal goal of 500+ HP.

By this I mean the turbo, injectors ect...

Why 1000cc is to big, if we are gonna tune the car size shouldn't matter, right? we don't want to buy 450-750cc injectors now then later on be force to buy 1000cc

same thing with the turbo. we want to buy one for our goal of 500+hp now.

for the oil lines for the turbo, is it the same thing as in the D16Z6 or is there something different?

Thank you guys!!!

Your cam seal is leaking, just need to fix it. they do that after time. Just take it out and slather some more hondabond around it, and then put it together making sure to put hondabond where it is supposed to go.

the leak looks like a cam seal. brake clean it and check in a day or 2

i think that t3/t4 60/63 turbo will be good for your setup. if not look into the gt series. theyre ball bearing turbos that spool quicker.

buy a torbo b4 you buy a mani/downpipe. actually, buy a mani and downpipe together. most of them dont match.

ask your tuner if he can use the 1000cc on a smaller setup. it can be done but its harder to tune.

i would aslo look into cams, springs, valves, intake mani, throttle body, port n polish for the head. it would make 500 come easier but im drunk and cant think straight
