ok os i want to turbo my si but. im wondering about the whole turbo timer thing. do i have to have one?
what are the advantages and disadvantages of having it.

also. from what ive herd. you can set you turbo to kick in on a specific gear?

There is such a thing as.. gear based boost.. so that higher gears build more boost than lower gears. This is so you don't spin your tires out as easily in a lower gear while launching.

a turbo timer is to give the turbo a chance to circulate the oil thats forced into it under boost to drain back into the motor(oilpan). From what i am told if the car is shut off directly after beating on it the oil that remains in the turbo might hurt the seals!..

i personally don't have a turbo timer on my car.. i have shut the car off a few times after passes and haven't had an issue. But i try to let the car sit running for a bit b4 turning it off justttt to be safe.

all a turbo timer is is a delay shut off, kinda like if u have a remote start on your car,, and u start it but u fell back asleep and forgot u left the car running. The remote starter will cut off after about 10 minutes. Same concept with a turbotimer.

ok so like unless im constantly hitting i-vtec and high rpm's i dont really need a timer but if i do hit high rpm's i should lt the car run for a few mins.before shutting it off..
right ?

now also if i do get one would it keep the car running for a few mins no matter how i was driving.or only when i had high boost levels.?

No matter what when your running a turbo car you should let it cool down a bit before shutting it off... whether driving hard and hitting vtec or not. This way you have less chance of the seals getting ruined from the oil sitting in the lines, turbo and what not.

I was running 268Whp @ 10psi .. I never used a turbo timer and never had problems.. too many redlines on stock internals are what caused my problem hah.

thast not really why you let the oil circulate after running it. the reason for allowing to to run before you shut it off, is so the oil has time to cool, and no "coke" or bake inside lines/the turbo

Depends on your driving conditions and lifestyle. If you like to speed and get out of the car in a hurry, I suggest you get one. If you're a chilled out, laid back kind of guy that cruises and don't mind chilling in your car for about a minute or two, then you wouldn't need one.

I usually just cruise and baby my car and whenever I'm at my destination, I'll just let it sit for about 45 seconds to a minute and then get out. If I ever do get on it, then I'll usually be in my car jamming for about 2 minutes, then get on with my life...

With my experience I was never able to find a installer that could set up something like that successfully.
