so their like this now :

but i want to mount them like this:

any disadvantages?... advantages?

usually the only time you would want to reverse-mount the sub, would be just to show of the rear of the sub. it also is a good idea to do if you have a box with a small internal volume, and you are trying to gain a lil space inside the box, the magnet takes up space too

so if i turn them around will their be less bass.....or about the same?

i read this

"Mounting the sub inverted actually helps SQ depending on the sub. For example, if you have an Infinity Kappa Perfect VQ, it's got a humongous magnet, no way that magnet will fit inside a sealed box with the minimum internal volume (0.3 cu ft). So you put the motor outside the box.

Second, this actually "creates" more box volume (when you're too lazy to build a new box) because hte motor structure isnt taking up space in the box anymore. This depends on the box size. 0.1 cu ft of sub rear end won't matter in a 1.5cu ft box, but it will be bigger in a 0.7cu ft box.

Some say the bass gets deeper when mounted this way, and attribute it to the volume "gain". Personally, though, I think its because of better power transmission. now the wires go straight from amp to sub, no need for those $2 connectors that used to be in the box."

it all depends on the internal volume of the box, and what the sub is sposed to have. if you look at a subs spec sheet it will give you a recommended box internal volume for ported/sealed apps. in a perfect world you wanna try and match those to your box. you proly wont notice much of a difference. i would say go for it, its not gonna harm anything and if you dont like it you can always put it back how it was

Some subs are not designed to perform in an isobaric setting (backwards)

Technically, you might be seeing more bass with the subs reverse mounted. try it out and see what happens. its worth a shot.

yea i reversed them around and it sounds better....now i just cant figure out which way sounds better about the phase being reversed.....i switched from pos to pos to pos to neg and it sounds the same to me.....so i just left it on pos to pos so it doesnt mess the sub up

got this off of a site:

"the reason your system performs differently is because you've changed the effective volume of the enclosure by inverting the subs - but actually you don't have to change the wiring if both speakers in a 2-sub system are being inverted. The wiring on the subs can stay the same, although you may have to change the phase of the signal at the amplifier to compensate for total system phase. But as long as both subs are in the same relative acoustic phase with each other, you can wire them any way you like."

reverse mounting your subs makes no difference. theres only a few reasons that people do it:

- some subs have attractive magnets that people want to show off like this:

- to gain some more internal volume if the enclosure is too small for the sub

but also keep in mind that subs make mechanical noise when they are playing. Most of the time its not too noticeable especially because the majority of subs are mounted the traditional way. But sometimes when people reverse-mount their subs the mechanical noise is more noticeable and it can be annoying.

yeah me and my boy did it with his two Alpine r's, and it really made no difference....looks kinda cool though, he had one reversed and the other one regularly mounted.

12volt.com ftw! if look closley the subs the are mounted back wards are "breathable band pass subs" that hole one the end of the magnets works just like the air tubes that are bandpass boxes. any way if theyre not bandpass subs there is no where for air to go and your going to blow your subs. too much preasure on the cois and cones.

No way, man! I love watching that woofer move. X-max is crazy on that thing.
I would have to agree with that...I was actually going to take a vid of it going today, but the minute I got the car set up, and had the camera ready the battery died...I will have to try again tommorrow...

Chaos...you have a vid of these subs playing...would like to compare...
