I want to install two subs in my trunk just to get a little bump action. Im not to good at matching up what amp goes with what subs and box and how it will sound so I need some help. I was thinking about getting two 12'' subs, but what is a good brand and what amp and what box will I need to make it all work together. I dont want to vibrate the whole neighbor hood but I do want to be able to at least feel it in my chest everytime it hits. Are JL's good?

Feel free to make fun of me as I have no knowledge about this sort of thing. Thanks

JL's are good. an audio shop can answer most of your questions. i personally have 1 L7 12" and a zx750.1 (class D but i still killed 2 alternators). do you want SPL or SQ? ported boxes will be louder if thats what you are going for. use 3/4" MDF or 1" MDF if you are making your own box. i have a program where you plug in the demensions of your trunk and it will spit out a cut out diagram for a slot port box. you just need the sub specifications, what hz you want the box tuned to, cubes, etc... check out some car audio forums.

Thanks for all the abvise. I found a set of used JL 10" 10W3V3-4 with a home made box built to JL specs. Im going to pick it up for $150. Now all I have to do is go look for an amp and wiring kit.

personally i dont think you should go with 10's, i would get one 12.. i have an infinity kappa 12 sub powered by a rockford fostgate amp and it absolutely pounds....defanitly more than enough... i think if you want a little bass just go with one twelve it will be enough... and for brands.. of course im going to say infinity they are very reputable, alpine, jl audio, rockford fostgate

the deal you got for the 2 jl's is a very good one. those are some wicked subs. i think you would be pretty surprised. if it was mine, i would put about 500-600W amplifier to it. i actually have their 10W6V2 sitting at the house waiting to be put in! cant wait!

Would two 10" subs hit harder than one 12"?

yes or no. depends on brand, box, amp, wiring, etc, etc, etc.

im thinking about getting rid of my L7 because i never ever use it to full potention (only 1/2 gain, 1/3 boost) and turn it down through the headunit and still get ridiculous bass. im looking at getting a single sealed 10"

you see the thing is, 10's hit completely different than 12's.. all of my boys have 12's except for one of them and it just doesnt sound that good, your getting the lower tones with 12's and most songs have lower ones.. so i would defanitly go with a 12.

Match up the subs RMS rating to the AMPS RMS rating. Never go with the max power rating.

The guy selling the two 10" JL's turned out to be a douche and sold them to someone else right before I was going to go pick them up.

I guess im going to go with a single 12" sub if I can find a good used one. I was thinking JL w7, Alpine type x, or Rockford fosgate HX2 or Punch.

yeah boi.... audiobahn and kenwood.

guys im running 2 dub 10s (made by audiobahn) that are rated for 1200 watts a sub, and a kenwood kac-9512d, which is rated for 1800 peak, but my amp puts out 2000-2200 on some songs (ive metered it)... this amp has eaten single, dual and even triple sub combos multiple times. the audiobahns eat the power up all day long. i was running a pair of el cheapo sony xplod 10s on it for a long time and it hit hard too in a bandpass box, but i cant beat the sound of those dubs.... if you wanna go with 10s, go with audiobahn, digital dynamics, or earthquake. ive heard the new pioneer shallow mount 10's are rated for 1400 watts and they like like hell too.

I would defanitly recommend a w7.. and an X, if you could choose either of those, it would be more than enough bass for your trunk, also invest in some dynamat..they sell some at bestbuy for 35 dollars and my trunk doesnt rattle at all.. 4 square feet of it for 35 is a good deal....

Here are two videos of my 10" W7 in the wagon...I would say it is more than enough...I have it running off of a Kicker ZX1000.1...and like the guy above said Dynamat would be nice...they have the bulk pack for around $120 shipped on Amazon.com...

thats great...but you should really match amplifiers and subwoofers by rms, seeing as the sub would reach 1800, for example, for about a second...sony sucks, idk why you would ever even buy those subs, and dont get 10's, you mine as well buy a tampon, too.

EDIT: if you were to buy a 10" w7 that would be the only 10 id ever lay my hands on. just my .02

yeah but a w7 costs 500 bucks, and the pair of dubs costs 150.... that was my issue at the time, but it turned out quite nicely for me. people ask me what i got, 15s? 18s?.... but no my last system was 2 18s in the back of my bronco.... there isnt much that will beat that setup in my opinion, except for 4 18s ...
