supercharging a civic

Hello all. Let me start by saying Im not very "honda" smart and this is not for my car. Also, any help and advice would be useful. Just wanted to put those things out beforehand.

My brother owns a 94 civic ex and likes for his civic to be different from the norm. So, instead of going turbo, he wants to strap a supercharger under the hood. The obvious problem is he's a lazy bones type and wont research what to do and thus I'm on here. =)

He has access to a slightly used supercharger off of a cobalt ss supercharged and was wondering if it would be possible to use that supercharger instead of looking into a jackson setup. If so, any help or advice to get the ball rolling would be EXTREMELY helpful. I dont know if its possible, so here I am.

If it is possible, what types of parts would he need to run all of this?
Off the top of my head, I know he will prolly need new pistons, valvetrain (cuz its got some miles), heat exchanger/intercooler, injectors, and all the other goodies to make it work.

So, as stated, thanks for looking and any help offered.

i dont think its gonna work because for civics the super charger(except vortech{for b-series}) mounts as the intake manifold(i dont know how the colbalt one sits) and im pretty sure the manifold will not bolt up

ahhh.. that sux. Yea, the cobalt s/c bolts up and sits straight on top of the intake manifold. So first thing you see is the s/c staring back at ya. That pretty much sucks though lol.. cuz I was gonna give him the whole setup for free since I am going to turbo my cobalt. Thanks anyways for the help guys. What other s/c kits are there for civics? I know jackson has one, and comptech has one that fits the RSX's but I dont know if it will work on civics.

Thanks for the help too guys. =)

hmm well im not much a supercharger guy but my guess is whatever supercharger you/he plan to get it has to be for the motor (d-series, b-series.etc) but IMO turbo would be better and i think a supercharger will not satisfy his boosting needs :D

Actually, you could make the supercharger work but it wouldn't be worth it in the long run. Just get a turbo.

Go for the turbo who cares if your normal, your fassstt. SC is more expensive anyway and if he went that route, he could engine swap for the same amount or less

i'm not worried about being normal or not. just want to be practical and cheap. ;) so if SCing a civic is a no no then what turbo set up should i be looking at? and what should i be worried about? doesn't turbo charging do damage? but now that i think about it, wouldn't a SC do the same damage? i'd like to just get a little more kick. i'd be happy with 15-30 hp gain. i just hate having to wait for the car to rev up to feel the power. would be nice to have power at 1500 rpm or so. not looking to re-enforce the whole motor either. just a little boost. no pun intended. ideas?

Google or check out the search bar on cc, save you alot of flamin...turbo/sc will not hurt your car if done right. If your going cheap build the kit yourself...

supercharge a civic? thats a no no
:smackself:

Posting misleading and bad information in a technical forum? That's a no no.

There's nothing wrong with a supercharged Civic.

Will you make more peak horsepower with a turbocharger? Almost certainly. But a supercharged D makes for a very nice, responsive, and quick street car

Bumping this old ass thread is worthless, those guys most likely don't even get on this site anymore...

But since we're on the topic of superchargers and Civics... I picked up a Civic with a D16y8 and a bolt on JRSC; I've got to admit, the little thing hauls ass!

Honda tuning magazine has a great article on fabricating superchargers. Get the October issue 2006 or go to their website. The article mentions using the type of blower your friend has, Cobalt SS, which is a M45 Eaton Roots type of blower. The article gives you the parts, the story, and the math you need to know to get the job done. 1stackmack.

Cheap is not fast or reliable
Reliable is not fast or cheap
Fast is not cheap or reliable

When u learn these words, then come back and talk shop.

15-30 hp your not going to feel much difference. Might as well get a 50 shot and call it a day. theyre only 500 for a kit.
