The Bowman Race Karts are powered by Honda's state of the art GX200 engine. The engine is unrestricted which allows this 200cc four cycle motor to rev up to a quick 5,500rpm.

specs on the gx200 from http://www.hondaengines.com/engines/gx200.htm

the spec sheet only goes to 3600rpm... just do some math to estimate 5500rpm.

yep, i'll probably drag my dad.. hes already thrilled i broke something else on my car. the funny thing is that this is more severe than my axle issue from earlier this year but i'm still upbeat. especially after one of my buddys told me he could probably get me a ls motor for a good price
Cool, Cool. Don't let dad get to ya. ;)

Florida? I'm hoping to move either to the Jacksonville area again, Knoxville, TN, or Charleston, SC sometime by November of next year. I get to start actively looking for a new house by the end of May '09. Both me and the hubby can do a job transfer with both of our companies.

Shane... no one's itch for racing of any sort can't be as bad as mine right about now.

w00t... black ice on the roads. Who needs drifting events when ya got snow coming down! My pipes are soooooo gonna freeze tonight with it dipping to 21 degrees. :x

What do you guys think?

Modifying your Vehicle

Why do so many people like to modify their cars? Some people like to make their cars be able to achieve greater speeds, other people like to modify the car’s handling, and others just enjoy giving their car a unique look over other cars.

Rumor has it that “street racing” has existed ever since the first two Ford Model-T rolled out of the production line. Car modification was quite noticed during the alcohol prohibition, from the 1920 to 1933. It is known that many gangs, especially the Al Capone Chicago outfit modified their gang’s vehicles to make them able to outrun the police, and to be able to protect themselves and their gangsters during a firefight. But as time passed and cars evolved, so did the reasons for people to modify their cars.

It is human nature to want to be different from other people, having a car that looks different from some one else’s is also an extension of this way of social thinking. For example, some people believe that investing money on a new set of rims and tires for your car is a waste of money, but it can be compared to buying a new pair of expensive shoes, like Jordan’s - and some even believe that those shoes improve their “baller” skills. Why would people buy hundred dollar shoes? To be unique; why would people buy a new set of rims and tires? Well, different rims (good brand rims) definitely improve a car’s appearance, while some rims even weigh less than the original rims, which make a car faster, and most of the time after-market tires improve a car’s handling, making it both safer, and able go faster.

There are also many car clubs that like to have matching cars, some on a low level, like the cars that are part of the club having the same type of decals, and other clubs only accept people that have certain cars with a list of after-market products. This is more looking into the social aspect of car modification.
Other car owners, mostly street racers, once a reputation is fostered, like to make their cars look very unique, most of the time they do this so that people are able to recognize them when they are driving around the streets, and to attract the attention of the media, mostly car magazines, such as importuner, or super street. One of the bad things about making a car so different from others is that not only normal people are able to tell the car from others, but so can the police.

Modifying can be quite expensive. Some people like to keep modification at a minimum, but there are people that invest more than double of the cost of the car into modifications, turbochargers, tires, and rims are amongst the most expensive modifications out in the market. For example, an HKS Turbocharger usually costs about $3000, and if you do not feel like installing it yourself, you may want to add the cost of labor, which is about $500. There are also some other disadvantages in modifying a car. The most notable thing is making a car ugly. Just because you think that some part looks awesome in your car, does not mean that everyone else thinks so too. That is why when considering modifying your vehicle; a responsible thing to do is to ask some friends what they think about it. Another downside of car modification is that some times, especially when modifying an engine, is that after-market parts may void a car’s warranty, and some parts might be illegal in some states. For example, installing – or even just having it present in your car- Nitrous Oxide is illegal in Tennessee; getting caught with it can get you car impounded, and license suspended, and in every state in the United States any type of car underglow, both neon, and LCD, are not road legal. Cops like to give big tickets to any people that have neon light while driving in the streets.

In review, car modification is just a way of self-expression; putting performance upgrades means you enjoy going fast, while putting big wheels in the car means that you have money to afford it. If you are thinking about modifying your car, I personally say go for it, but remember, ask at least ten people before you install the part, go to online forums (google is a great tool to find such websites) and ask if the part has a good or bad history, and ask a police officers if the part would make your car non-street legal. So, have fun modifying your car, and always remember to drive safe.
