lost key... reprogramming?

Hello everyone,

I just subscribed to this forum. I had a quick question. When I bought my Civic, the dealer gave me two identical keys and a plain looking key. Today, I lost my keys at work but I still have the 2nd key the dealer gave me plus the plain one. I'm afraid that some freak at work will drive/walk through the parking lot looking through each Honda to see what car the key they might find matches with.

So I was wondering if the dealer will reset the Civic's computer (or whatever is it they might need to do) and reprogram the keys I already have (that came with the car), without ordering a new one, that way the lost key would not be usable?

Thanks!

I ran into the same problem (losing the key and want to prevent anybody getting into my Civic). Just wondering how you solved your problem, would appreciate to know.

Phoned Honda Customer Relations and got a reply: The only way to change it is by replacing all the locks and getting a new key. Cost: over $1000. To my comment that this is not very good, the response was: "it is not a defect". Maybe not, but it is certainly a lousy design.

Not much you can do bro. Just hope that no one knows that the key they found, goes to your car.

Imma locksmith where im at and idk if this helps you at all but for us to rekey locks its like 10 bucks and then if we gotta pull out the ignition its like 50 (rekey included). so head to your local locksmith bro and ask them. i just remembered you said you had a key thats programmable, or a key with a "chip" in it and if you only have one of the keys for us its like 90 dollars to reprogram it ( if you lost both out here in Oregon its about 300 dollars to get a new one key programmed).
So add that 90 plus say the 3 ouside in locks and then the ignition than your lookin at 170 dollars. which honestly dude aint bad. ask around though, and if you go with a locksmith make sure they are certified bro.
