Just started happening a week ago or so. I turn the car on, the amp instantly goes into protect mode. It was working fine previously...

I have a 12" JL w3, and an 800w Sony 2-channel amp (those shitty hexagonal ones)

I recently replaced the terminal on teh sub as that was.. melted. And I turned down the gain on teh amp a bit too. Worked fine for a few weeks, then this started happening. Now it's always on protect. Fuses are good as well.

Is the amp toast (I hope so, lol), or is there a problem somewhere else? Ground looked good also.

Thanks

check all wires and fuses.....if those are fine then its probably the amp that went out finally....its a cheap amp anyways....go to ebay....and by a cheap legacy amp....their cheap and do alright......ive had mine for over 5 yrs and now it still works fine today.....

i bought a 2400watt amp for only 150.....i would say its only doing around 800wrms....but still thats not bad for the price....

once this amp blows im gonna switch to the 4200watt legacy amp....i think its only around 200 bucks to...

had that same problem once before. the amp was toast.

for around 200 on ebay you can get a 1200watt hifonics amp that will overpower that sub all day long if you wanted to. If you can get the sub down to 1 ohm you could even get the 600w hifonics for 150. These amps put out more than they claim too.

UPDATE:

Amp AND Sub went bad.. I guess when the amp toasted it locked up one of the voice coils. Soo I bought a new amp (best buy discount ftw), and a brand new JL 12"w3v3-4... at a great price. Just ordered it soo we'll see. OH, and I found a loose ground too, if that helps.

it goes into protect mode because the sub was asking for more power then that amp could put out thats sony for you always get an amp that pushes more rms then the subs rms
