Chipped ECU? Need info

My buddy has a 00 Civic EX with an AEM intake, DC header and custom 2.25" exhaust. I think he's got lightweight pulleys & flywheel too.

Anyway, he want's to get more power and has been debating between nitrous, n/a and turbo...

Lately he's asked me about chipped ECU's which is my bad subject.

I found a sponsor on ClubIntegra that sells chipped OBD1 ECU's for $175 (VTEC)

Okay, so which ECU should he get to get chipped? (He want's a spare ECU that's stock)

And he said something about calling the places and they only chip OBD1 ECU's, or else you can get a jumper harness. What is that and how much do they go for?

Thanks for the help/info guys!

well u go single cam vtec than u want a p28 and i believe most chips are the same like redline wise. ex.. spoon, mugen, skunk 2,... etc.. i believe but i think that hondatta gives u launch control and no redline, plus also think about vtec controller

p28 would be the ecu he would want then use whatever tuning program he wants, crome, hondata etc

Doesn't it come with a p28 ECU too?

Okay, so you get the chipped ECU, it's not tuned already? You still need to tune it right?

You can use basically any obd1 ecu (there are a few exceptions, such as p07s and p14s, etc). Once they are chipped they can pretty much run any motor with the right file loaded onto the chip.

Keep in mind that the chip you will get from anyone will be a basemap, not a "tuned" chip. It might be close but to get the most out of your setup you will need to get tuned. This is especially important with any sort of forced induction.

Basically you will need an OBD2B to OBD1 conversion harness and a chipped P28 or OBD1 vtec ecu. It just needs to be setup for whatever engine combo you are running at the time.
