i installed a fresh motor in my car and the timing is dead on. i tried running my stock y7 ecu and it would idle fine. as soon as i touched the throttle it would try to choke out and wouldn't go above 2k rpms. i decided to try a y8 ecu and the car would run fairly decent. with the y8 ecu it still wouldn't go above 5k rpms due to no vtec. also the shift interlock doesn't work and am having to use my key to unlock the shifter. i was driving the car like this to work for a couple days(5 minute drive) and drove it home for lunch and it wouldn't start back up. i tore it down again and rechecked the timing and tried the original ecu(y7) and it still won't crank up. i checked all the grounds, plugs, and wires. the car has a brand new distributor. so here is my setup: 2000 sedan VP, d16y7 motor w/ d16a6 pistons, full exhaust( no catalytic converter). any ideas are welcome, im just stuck and need this car running so i can sell it......its hard to sell a car with a new motor if it dont run.

what is your timing set at? try retarding the timing and running the y7 ecu.

its weird that its running better with a different ecu.... you might need to convert to OBD1 and get a P28

EDIT: since its higher compression... your knock sensor might be putting the car into safe mode.

y7 doesn't have a knock sensor only y8 and y5 have a knock sensor. i just started it with the y7 ecu in it but still won't go above 2k rpms with that ecu. timing is dead on tdc. car is misfiring at anything other than idle and choking out. its getting way to much fuel

defvayne what are you wanting me to look at on ff squad? i guess i could go make sure all my ecu pinouts are correct, but the only ones that ever changed were the ones for the iacv conversion and i'm pretty sure i changed those back

i agree advance it and see what happens slide the dizzy all the way towards the front of the car is advancing if i remember right

but advance it as far as the dizzy will go and it will run alot better if that was your problem but check your map sensor i had that problem but my car just got really really bad milage like 5mpg and it idled really wierd but check it anyway let us know if that works ok

map sensor is 100% according to the factory service manual. i tried rockin the dizzy both ways and nothing really changed. smoothed out a little, but still wouldn't go above 2k rpms
