its not 2000 pounds.. its more like.... 600.. its a jetski. plus its on wheels. i can pull it by hand thats how light it is.
Actually Jerry, i have seen a couple civics in St. Pete towing jet skis around. Also have seen other civics with hitchs. I dont think i would tow anything more then that for long hauls if it couldn't be helped

well think about it this way the gross vehicle weight rating of a civic is 850 lbs above its empty weight so im sure it can pull a trailer that weights at least that much

ive got a 95 ex and when i got the car it had a hitch on it. the previous owner said he used it to tow a small box trailer when he moved. of course the trans had a nice chatter when i got the car. not sure if the two are related but im sure it didnt help. i removed the thing right after i bought the car.

I see civics towing things in my home town fairly often..... however I suggest

A. Buy a truck

B. Never bring your civic near a boat launch or large bodies of water... civics + water = Bad news bears.

thanks for the boost of confidence. i wanna put this thing on my civic. that way.. since its there.. i can use the jetski whenever i want. and not have to ask... "can we go jetsking today?"

Well.. Me and Three of my friends in my civic is a drag yea... But.. Its still going strong.. Im sure thats Around the 850 pounds. The thing is I dont want the Trailer thing on my car all the time... It weighs alot i bet.

I take good care of the thing. Im not too worried about it derstroying my car. The lakes arent too far away. 15 min drive? I live in Lakeland... Lots of jetski spots nearby.

Why not near water?

Because I can see it ending badly. Some idiot in my home town used his 4cyl Toyota Corolla (which its engine is somewhat similar to a civics.... not exactly but similar power anyways) and he was launching a jet ski.... well he backed it up and the thing draged him into the lake. He tried getting out before he went all the way in but not enough tourqe to get him out. Thus he had to get some guy with a F150 to tow him out, after all that his car had to be taken away by tow truck because it was hydro locked.

Im not saying dont try it, but if I were you Id find a friend or relative with a truck because i wouldnt want to see anyones civic in the drink.

edit: dont any of your friends that you go jet skiing with have a truck? or at least something thats not a civic?

well, here's a story that might make you feel better. my dad had a 93 accord 4 spd automatic. we towed a bass boat to a lake in california - launched that s**t and everything. tranny held up just fine for years afterward. the look on peoples faces was priceless.

oh, you can tow with a civic. I have a 1998 civic cx hatchback with 5-spd manual, I wound up getting a class-I (up to 1000lbs) hitch installed by u-haul for a 4x8x4 enclosed trailer, which I absolutely stuffed, along with the car itself, with all my worldly property.

Stopping at a truck stop, I convinced an operator there to let me use a truck scale for free, 6370 lbs. between the civic and the trailer! not bad for a 2200lb car. It got me from cental PA to Denver, CO.

I'm told you shouldn't attempt this with an auto transmission...
