Yeah, it's 1100 cubic inches. 500HP and around 1100FT/LBs of torque, they sounds like heaven and hell are having a war.
It was actually developed to be a V12 aircraft engine, but when the Navy decided to only use radial engines the Army needed engines for it's various tank and over vehicles, so Ford took 4 cylinders off and the 1100CI V8 was born.

The cool think about those engines is the weight, they were all aluminum so stripped down, they didn't usually weigh more than a cast iron Hemi engine.

Those engine also came Supercharged and TWIN-Turbocharged.

Now that might not seem that impressive, but this back in the 40s.

Some people try to say it was, but it isn't.

The Merlin was a SOHC and the Ford GAA is a DOHC.
The Merlins sparkplugs were located on the exaust port, where-as the GAA has them centrally located in the combustion chamber.

The only thing similar to the Merlin was the stroke and bore.
