Honestly, why not go with 1 Type R? 500RMS is plenty and will take up half the space. The Type E's are great though, and unless you work for a mobile electronics retailer and get a discount, buy one get one free is good. And yes, 12"s would displace more air, but honestly, 2 subs already will be decently loud. What type of music do you listen to? 12"s will be more dominant in a lower frequency range than 10"s, that's why listeners of rap or trance music, which contain un-naturally low notes in regards to real instruments, prefer 12"s. If you listen to rock or something similar, the punchier sound of 10"s may suit you. Base your size decision off of that philosophy rather than just assuming one size is significantly louder than the other, both have a power handling of 250RMS.

i listen to a wide range of music types. sublime, pepper, expendables, reel big fish, green day, jimmy eat world, slipknot, killswitch engage, eminem, random other rap, pink floyd, the beatles blah blah blah. so its hard for me to decide which i want to sound better. im thinking since i dont wanna rattle my trunk to pieces, one 10" would probably be more responsive and still hit hard enough for my tastes....but then again i know nothing about audio equipment.

Okay, I thought because you were looking at the BOGOF that you wanted 2 subs. I personally am with you, I feel 90% of the time 1 sub is appropriate. A type E might be fine for you, but a type R might be a better choice. You will have the flexibility to set your gains, therefore if it's too loud, you can turn down the type R. Unfortunately with the type E at only 250RMS, if it's not loud enough....youre out of luck.

im also on a budget, and buying a sub and amp and building a box is already more than i wanna spend....but i love music and i want more bass...i have an alpine cda-9885 head unit, and all stock speakers replaced with sony xplods (unfortunately, came in the car) but they are the older high end ones...and sound great, but once again..not enough bass.

the only reason i looked at the buy one get one is i love alpine stuff and its the cheapest sub they make...just happens to be buy one get one with free shipping. im tempted to do the 2x 12's with an mrp-500 sub...but thats probably overkill for me. the type r is just too expensive for me right now.

it all depends on what kinda amp ur putting to them and how loud ur gonna bump them i had 2 12 in type rs on a 2nd gen rockford 500.2 and i pushed them pretty hard....then 3 months down the road blew them they did sound good for a little while but if your looking for a good all around sub i would highly consider maybe 1 12 in jl w3v2 they hit the highs and lows excellent by far they are the best bang for your buck even just 1 with a good amp will sound excelent i am currently running 2 12 w3 that me and my ex bought about 6 years ago and running them off the same 2nd gen rockford 500 and they honestly sound as good as the day i bought them...and i have def pushed them from time to time, and i see u listen to alot of the same music i do trust me when i say u will not be dissapointed with just 1 12! oh and btw they are a duel voice coil

2 12's arent necessarily going to be "too much bass", they will hit the low notes; alot of songs today have more lows than highs..

you go with the 10's your going to be hitting every single high frequency possible...

IMO I would go with 1 12 inch R.. just like eskateboarding suggested...best bang for the buck

Just make sure you match the amp as perfect as you can get it.. i would suggest doing an online chat with a tech on crutchfield

Dumbest s**t i've ever heard. i have 8's that get real box..

a type e wont get low into the 30's. get a type x. a ported 10 will sound good and get low
