So recently i bought a 600watt 4 channel amp for rear 6x9's hooked em up and everything...actually my buddy did. im not too electronic saavy. so when i crank the car i get a whistling sound.. only when i crank it. The sound does not occur when the key is in accessory mode. and the whistling sound climbes with my rpm's.

My buddy said to get a ground loop isolator. so we hooked that up, but i still have the noise. Any ideas? think i bought a crap amp? i got it from a pawn shop haha. 75 bucks.

I forgot to add. i have a capacitor running the ground. into 2 different amps. 1 powering my 2 12's and 1 the other powering my 6x9's if in fact it was the ground.. wouldn't i get a whistling sound from my sub woofers as well and not just the 6x9's?

I think you meant capacitor on the power wire? That's where it should be. Anyway, most likely you have a bad ground or preamplifier induced noise. Make sure your ground wires are = length and size and grounded at the same point. If you have your power wire running close to your RCA cables, that is probably the culprit. They should be on opposite sides of the car. And make sure they aren't to close to each other where your amp is mounted. Also RCA's should be far from the capacitor. To see if the amp is the culprit, just turn off the crossover on the sub amp and hook it temporarily to one of your 6x9's. No buzz after that, your other amp is probably junk. Good luck man

Just realized you said 4 channel amp. Everything I said above still aplies except obviously the grounds are the same, there's only one. And just hook the 6x9 up to the other half of the amp w/ the x-over off. It IS possible that half the amp is crapped out. Especially if it has dual power supplies and power rails.

Oh damn, Forgot something else...Your ground for a amp that size MUST be 4 AWG wire or bigger and ideally no longer then 3 feet long for the amp to work at full potential. Think of the ground in the same way as your exhaust. It has to let what goes into the amp come out the other end... Well, I guess that's one way to say it.
