Cost of Living
While there is much to enjoy in the Bellevue and the Metro area, it is all below the national average. A survey of 300 U.S. cities reveals that the relative price levels for consumer goods and services in the area are 12.0% below the national index of 100 for six major components of grocery items, housing, utilities, transportation, health care and miscellaneous goods and services.

Housing/Rental
Housing is reasonably priced compared to other areas of the country. According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Realtors, the median home sale price was $138,000 for the third quarter of 2005. The median for the United States during the same period was $215,000. The average cost to rent a two-bedroom apartment is $671 per month.

Tax Information
Local Sales and Use Tax
The sales and use tax rate for the state of Nebraska is 5.5 percent. In addition, the City of Bellevue levies a 1.5 percent sales tax. The combined total sales tax rate for Bellevue is 7.0 percent. Food sold in grocery stores and prescription drugs are exempt from sales tax.

Property Tax
Property taxes are levied only by local governments in Nebraska; there is no state property tax. Real estate taxes are based on 100 percent of valuation with levies ranging from $1.92025 to $2.39007 per $100 assessed value, depending upon the location of the property. Automobiles, campers, and boats are also subject to the personal property tax in Nebraska. Seven people, including a 9-year-old girl, were shot within an hour-long span Sunday night in the Austin community on Chicago's West Side.

The first shooting, which happened about 7:45 p.m. near West Monroe Street and South Lotus Avenue, left five males, ranging from 17 to 29, wounded. One of the victims was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital, and another was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition, said Fire Department spokesman Quention Curtis.

The other three were taken in fair-to-serious or good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Curtis said.

Police Officer Michael Fitzpatrick, a police spokesman, said the shooting was a drive-by. Police said some of the victims were seen running south on Lotus either before or after they were shot.
Investigators could be seen examining a basement apartment at the scene.

A little more than a half an hour later, a 9-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were wounded in a drive-by shooting a little over two miles away in the 1000 block of North Leclaire Avenue.

The girl and boy were taken in fair-to-serious condition to Mt. Sinai.

There's no initial indication that the shootings were related. No one was in custody for either shooting.

Further details weren't readily available as Grand-Central Area detectives continued to investigate.

I shoot plants all the time. We go down to Olbrich Gardens many times during the year. Theres always different color and plants. We went for the butterfly thing yesterday, but i couldnt hold my lens steady enough to get good shots.

Nice cactus!

Thats a sick ass shot Rey. Jess and I want to blow up some of my pictures and hang them up around the house.
