B18 is a great platform to start.. It wont be a high revving machine as a VTEC and also they have weak rods. But the compression ratio is good for boost.

What plans are you going to do with it?
well mostly its just going to be a daily driver. but i want that extra power. gotta have a lil fun every now and then lol. but i was thinking maybe around 8-14psi of boost altogether. nothing extreme just a lil more pick up and go. i had heard that this engine was extremely good for boost app's except ya the rods.. what would be some good rods?? im trying to do this as low budget as possible and nothing to extreme as i need my car to get around daily. i plan on a engine rebuild and everything.. but not for a while..

Whoaa.. theres no such thing as a low-budget turbo project..search the 1st page of this thread for others that stated the same thing..

As for your 8-14 psi.. you should have a realistic goal of what HP #'s you want to achieve and then go from there..

Cheap - Reliable - Fast << pick 2 and the 3rd is what your car isnt!

EDIT: read the 3 links i sent you than come back and tell us where you want to go from there and we can point you in the right direction.. Expect to spend $2-3000 on your budget build. Going fast isnt cheap!

Well, look into getting a vtec head and build the bottom end and you should scoot quite nicely..If you put cams/springs and retainers as well and youll have a great set up!

yep its all b series motors... if you gonna use stock rods tho i would shoot for 280whp to be safe...

and ya im using JE SRP pistons and Eagle H Beam rods....so yep those are a good combo....

i would go with Wiseco pistons tho....cause ive heard the best about them....

the b18b rods can handle between 250-300whp, but the dinky rod bolts need to be upgraded. as for the head, i'm not sure what it can handle. i do know that changing the head to a b16 or b18 vtec head is a definitely plus b/c it frees up tons of power. the biggest key to making the whole thing reliable is the tune though. a good tune can almost guarantee a reliable motor as long as its not making more power than it should be

hey guys would the stock head gasket be best for the turbo setup? or run a low compression head gasket. also if you use stock pistons and rods and throw a low comp head gasket on there would that help the motors durability?? or would the the compression be fine the way it is and not lower it?

okay guys i need some help too , i think lol. so i turbo'd my last car and didnt know all that much i guess it was a vr6 jetta it lasted about a year. then i sold it. ive been readin up on these motors and there are quite a bit of people running 14psi at 300 hp on a stock b18b1 which is what i have now. im piecing together a turbo kit. the bare minimum of what i need. well kinda. so heres what i got so far please let me know if im missing anything as well as any pointers you have.
parts list
t3/t04e turbo
tial 38mm wastegate
arp head studs
hallman pro bc
boost and A/F gauges
550cc injectors
oil feed and return lines, steel braided
vac lines
walbro 255 fuel pump

i am still looking for an exhaust manifold, arp rod bolts, head gasket(should i use stock?), intercooler&piping, a software to run with my computer(p73) anyone run crome? either tap my oil pan or find one, and a BOV.

is there anything im missing??

Yeah, crome will work that's what I used. Stock headgasket will be fine just get a new one. You can tap your stock oil pan that's the cheapest way. Look on craigslist/HT for a good used bov. Tial, greddy type s, and HKS SSQV are my favorites, just don't get some cheap one like Blitz... Votionspeed.com is a sponsor on him talk to him about IC and piping, I'm sure he can hook you up.

cheap and reliable. haha although most of the parts i have are good parts i have just been able to get them for really cheap from friends. i help them fix their cars and they pay me in parts or give me a great deal on em. i just got a greddy type s bov for 60 bucks lol that only took an hour. by the way thanks kensai and can you buy the chip for crome or do you have to get your ecu saudered like a plug saudered in the computer. i heard crome uses a chip that plugs into your computer after you download a tune from your home computer or laptop and they have many downloadable tunes.
