imho thats too much..... i got 2 mtx tens that are super clean in a mdf ported box for $100... i mean...
not trying to sell them to you but i'll let them go for that if you want them... the box isn't covered so it'll go into anything just cover it in whatever and you're good... together they run 900w max

your m 850 may have a little too much power. a little to expensive for me but do what you want, it should work. that is a good price considering a new 10w7 from crutchfield is $500.

^^ didn't think it was a JL box, that looks like a winner now =)

I still think it's too big but if their designed to work togther I'm sure it'll sound great.

$190 is an amazing price for that woofer. JL makes absolute quality subwoofers. I just stay away from JL cuz its over priced. But that right there is a great price.

The Box is nice, should be sufficient. Depending on what you want out of your system you can most definitely build a better box. But the JL stock boxes sound pretty damn clean, so unless ur super picky u should be ok

And as far as ur amp, given that your amp is not under or over rated ... it is rated 500 @ 2 ohms and 800 @ 2 ohms.

The sub ur looking to purchase requires 3 ohms ... so ur amp should be giving it about 650 watts rms.

... Forget about max power, it doesnt mean jack s**t... and 650 watts from a JL W7 will give you great spl and sq.

I'd say jump all over that deal. I know I would in a heartbeat if I got the same offer

That is because MTX for the most part is cheap low end subs. You are telling him that a $500 sub and a $200 box should be turned down to buy low end? MTX is good if you are on a budget but the W7 is a very good sub and is way higher on the food chain.

take the sub alone off his hands for 150. that box is garbage
The box looks to be a JL H.O. box. They specifically make them for their subs, and that box specifically for W7's.

:word: to all of that.

I just want to add that the exact set up is $800 before shipping from crutchfield.

Also the box isn't too big. Not for that sub. It is recommended that you have 1.75-2.00 cubic feet of air space for the 10w7 in a ported box. They are air hogs.

I sold that exact set up a couple years ago for $500 and it sold extremely fast. I miss my W7. It is just waaayyy to heavy (around 120lbs all together) and too much bass for me anymore.

a customer had me build him a box for that. 1.75 tuned to 32hz...it was night and day compared to the HO box. i'd get a ported box built if i were you.

Go for it man. I have the same sub and box setup just with a 12" sub. That box makes the sub sound great.

I've been out of the game way too long! When i first looked at that box i thought it was way too big too. guess not. Been using JL's since the early 90's. I say go for it.

Oh, I didn't say that they are the best box. I was just pointing out that they are already ported, when you told him to have a ported box made.

Typo on my end..i meant to say a ported box tuned lower. those ho's if i recall correctly are tuned to 41hz for maximum output.

one of those tuned around 30-32 hz would be amazing.
