They said they weren't going to be including damage in GT games any time soon because they didn't want to include it until they could portray it realistically. What happened to that? Now they're giving us this crap damage system. I wouldn't have minded if they hadn't said what they said, but after a statement like that, I expected more.

and you could lose bumpers and hoods and what not in the 2

Yeah i flipped it in the demo and yes a bumper falls off, the crash is cool since it's now 3d but the damage itself isn't very impressive IMO.

Meh, well it's got a long way to go. Don't really care that it's better than Forza. They never said "We're aiming to be better than forza." They said they were aiming for realism. So far, it looks nothing like actuality.
