ARP cyl head bolts.

well my question is......... what is the range of boost i can run before i need to replace my stock bolts? i know it also depends on CFM's thru the turbo too. its a good preventitive mesure so i dont put my head thru the hood, but $ is kinda gettin tight. Honda has a really good name for engine quality so whats the deal. I'm not looking for hudge numbers, shes gonna be my daily and it's getting boosted cause i'm addicted to the surge of power it gives. any input will help. thanx to all

Head studs are what, $100? Just get them or you'll regret it later when your head pops.

ya their a must if your gonna upgrade rods and pistons anyways....

just get them so you wont regret it later on when your headgasket blows lol....

If your boosting that much to worry about it, you might want to get a new HG as well..

we have made 400+whp on stock reused head bolts on the b16, and 500whp on stock b18c bolts, so im sure you wont have any issues with reasonable power levels(usually around 275-300whp). we have never had a head lift on stock head bolts. if you are building the motor of course upgrade them, but if you are running a turbo on the stock motor i wouldnt bother.

^^ one of the few lucky ones.. But actually, OE studs technically should be replaced after taking head off because of torque flex...I put in a new Cometic hg and ARP studs just for piece of mind and 1 less thing to worry about.

I'd buy an OEM HG over Cometic anyday. I had nothing but problems with Cometic headgaskets.

Yes, you can re-use your stock headbolts. Lots of people do it, I've even done it. But, if you want one less thing to worry about, like esotericimage said, I'd pick some up. They're 100-120$, and they will keep your head from lifting which will eventually hurt your head gasket.

my point is dont take them out to begin with. they dont need to be replacing and neither does the HG, not to necessarily reuse them, just that we have done it, and even reuses head bolts have proven strong enough to handle the stresses of turbocharged applications.

if you replace the headgasket then you should replace the head bolts as well.... the head bolts flex and are not that good used more than once.... if your gonna take them out to begin with just upgrade to arp head studs...
