Hey all,

Need some advice. I'm looking to buy a camera because I want to get into photography. Is there a good digital SLR that is capable of shooting videos too? Or is it a better idea to buy 2 separate units (one for photo and another for video).

Anyways, please let me know if you have any suggestions for an entry level camera or if you're willing to sell me something decent that you might have.

Thanks!

i just bought a nikon D90 that has 720p video. there isnt much else you can do with the video so if you want to really get into videography, id suggest getting 2 separate ones

i should have new pics soon with the new cam..doing a shoot sunday with my and a friends car.

Thanks for the reply man.

I just saw a commercial on TV for a Nikon 9000 (I think). it was a digital slr with decent video capabilities. Apparently they had shot the commercial using the camera. Does anyone have any info or suggestions about that?

I think you might mean the d5000, which has the flip screen (I think its kinda of dumb for a dslr). I'm not sure how different the video capabilities are for the d5000 compared to the d90. I have a d90 myself and mainly bought it for the upgraded features, but also wanted to be able to record HD video. The other thing to is the limit on how much you can record. I know the limit for the d90 is 5 min max per video at 720p.

Thanks for the info. Might be able to pickup a Canon HV20 for a reasonable price locally if seller still has it *fingers crossed*

I would definitely need more than 5min of recording time, so I suppose getting an actual camcorder is a good idea. I'm all of a sudden really interested in photography and video. Hopefully I can take a course or 2 this summer to help me develop some basic skills.

ps. nice pic!
