Welp :cracks knuckles and begins to type: here's the way i see it. and joe touched on it a bit too. CC did get a BIT clique-y but i dont think it was over the top. some people are just assholes, like dan....that being said, dan and i are friends.

like joe, i also think that when the...for lack of a better term "role models".....weren't people would flamed every new member, there was a much stronger sense of community. and i think it's important to rebuild that.

i agree with 95% of what chris has said. for the longest time, i wanted to be a mod and be an "OG" but i know thats something that requires a significant contribution, time spent on the site (don't ask me how many hours a day i spend on here lol) and the for the mods, the ability to take a step back and look at all aspects of an issue.

another thing that ...i think joe said....was that this is normal. it absolutely is. ive seen it about 3 times now. and if it hasnt by this time, i expect that around march/april it will pick back up again.

loyalty is a test of patience, community is a test of tolerance.

I've asked Anthony a number of times and maybe Evan once if there was a place for me to "go green" in. If you need someone in photography or just general in OT to help keep things in line, lemme know, I'll volunteer

The reason I continually became less and less active was because the dicks that whipped me up into the car guy I am now began to thin out as well. It got to where I didn't know any of these other "OG's" that were in here. It was def better with all the old guys. And who really cares if it was a bit cliquey... There was plenty of "community" to go around. And we'd gladly let you in as long as you weren't a dumb ass. We didn't want those kind around and I can't quite think of a reason anyone else would either  I would much rather have a FEW so called "ass holes" and "d**k heads" that really made this site what it is and always will be than a BUNCH of "civic drifting", bumper hanging, vteckk stickerin', headlight fluid nubs any day.
Just my .02 =)
G'day gentlemen.

i agree 100% with this. none of this s**t was happening back in the day, on my watch!! clubcivic was like a well lubed engine back in the day when i was smod and active in the site. i didn't make sure flaming was kept to a minimum. i made sure flaming was NONEXISTANT. i made sure trolling was nonexistant. now it's like the site is running on 3 cylinders. what happened? DID WE LOSE COMPRESSION?!

as for repeated questions, we've tried to fix it int he past. we set up a faq section. a how-to section. a newbie forum... none of these have worked. we tried to keep the random s**t in OT and have the tech be purely technical. i know the active mods on the site are doing what they can, but it's not their faults new members can't read. i think part of the reason for all this is due to the growth of the forum. clubcivic is MUCH larger than it used to be. there was a time when i could call all active members by name. i knew them all and talked to them all. we were a tight knit community. it meant something to have a clubcivic sticker on your car. it meant you were part of a family that actually gave a s**t about each other. i've made incredible friends here on cc and continue to do so. hell, clubcivic members were the ones that saved my ass from losing my student visa status and kicked out of the country half a decade ago. i literally owe them my life.

honestly, i have no clue what can be done to change the state of things. i'm now a lot less active in internet forums due to the time demands of finally finishing college. there's only four forums i frequent, and i rarely post anywhere any more. i come to cc occasionally to talk to my friends, put up interesting news, and answer a few questions here and there. the comradery we had is certainly missing, and that's really turned me off. i've been here since august 2003. that's OVER SIX YEARS. time changes things, i suppose.

anyway, sorry about the rant. just my 2¢

The bashing really became active after the very wise (Sarcasm) decision was made to remove the Introduction forum.. Everything went down hill from there.

ok. dont flame on me because im an 09'er. i read the whole thread. i agree with the concept. i beleive that the main reason for the new threads is people dont know how to use the site yet, people that dont know anything about cars dont know what to type into the search bar. that was the problems when i started in april. i am currently reading a book, Civic Duty which is about the honda civics and has a lot of good information. so there should be a lot less noob posts from me now. the flaming was good for me because i figured out how to use the search bar. or just take the time to look through the forums.

people that flame or get uppity based on join date are idiots themselves. while flaming taught you how to use the forum, a polite response could've also done the same. kudos to you for actually going out and researching the info, rather than posting a question expecting the responses to come on a silver platter. i want to thank you for bringing that up because it really puts into perspective one of the main reasons there are so many crap posts on the forum. it seems that kids these days EXPECT to obtain results without putting any effort into it. posting a question takes no effort. actually going through the forum (even without the search, browsing page by page) and reading threads that may possibly have to do with the issue at hand is effort. taking the time to do some outside research is effort. blindly asking something with no prior research, no basis, no nothing... well that's just lazy and a major problem with today's youth. kids just aren't proactive any more these days.

back when i had very limited knowledge, i actually went from thread to thread, reading people's questions and did my own research regarding their issues. i'd go out there and figure out possible causes as well as solutions, and come back with my findings. this way i was not only helping someone out, but also increasing my own knowledge of hondas. everyone's gotta start somewhere, it's too bad most won't put in the effort.

ps: civic duty is a good book, but don't take it 100% at face value as there are some things i disagree with the author about.

idk what to say ive read every single post in here and honestly it's left me speechless.

things need to change; look at it this way, i figure CC to have somewhat of a family feel to it with the people always posting and giving information. I don't even have my civic anymore and yet i always come back to chat, offer advice if i can and make people sig's because it's what i like to do.

in the little time ive been here ive learned so much about the way thing's work on a car just by reading, searching, and just asking people over PM's or Aim/any other form of communication.

the people that bash the 09'ers do it within reason sometimes because i too have to admit i got tired of seeing thread's one after the other about the same subject and either of them bothered to search.

maybe some solution could come to that if JayJay were to post it in BIG capital letter's on the site face and also on top of every thread branch "SEARCH BEFORE POSTING" to re-remind member's to do their share of hard work for the information. it'll get better i know it will, i plan on sticking around for a long while. i've gotten to know many member's on the site and almost feel like i've known them for year's.

those falling into the category of Anfrey, Biz, Dcrabbe, ect..

we just need to focus on keeping the site as clean as possible and i hope i can help in some way with my response.

and about the ROTM situation wth is going on with that? it's the RIDE OF THE MONTH; not, Ride of the millennium

there are member's here with more than exquisite vehicles that they've put hard work into and deserve to be feature's but aren't given the chance.

Def agree there anf! The search function isn't just about not posting up dumb questions but because the first result usually isn't the right one it does one of a few things... 1. Teach you things about your car that you may not have known you wanted to know, and 2. Make you feel a little bit more at home here after reading numerous responses from the dedicated posters.
It's much more than just an answer button.

^^ Thats what i did for about 1 1/2 years before joining. Continued to read after i joined and usually found the info before posting or putting in my two cents. I've for the most part enjoyed cc for what it is. i spend about 80% of my computer time on cc. Feel intimidated at HT. Here i dont. more comfortable and laid back. Im sticking it out for the long haul.;)

yes it is; i agree. CC's like an addiction easy to start hard to kick off (wouldn't want to anyway) every morning id find myself sifting thru the thread's where Dank and all the other member's how posted daily and just chatted and eventually offered advice. I'd get a morning laugh PLUS id learn something new everyday; i still do that but now no one's almost around to stir up pot's and whatnot, not that it's a good thing but we need a rebellious kinda group who pokes fun but has their boundaries and knows how to enforce them

let's hope those day's dont come too far in between again

what all didnt you agree with in the book? im only to chapter 5.
some of the SCCA info is erroneous... i remember reading about not being able to get an aftermarket LSD, which is untrue... i also wish he would've expanded more on the b16 and making power out of the D, rather than saying the b18 is pretty much the way to go. there also isn't any k-series info in the book at all. also, the one section on engine tuning is kinda minimal. that being said, the book is nearly a decade old, but remains a good resource to familiarize yourself with civics. definitely a good starting point from which to build up on.

the true ogs... the ones that are here almost everyday.... anfrey, tom, and folks that have a post count that reflects the time they have spent here... can be called ogs..

some cat with 6-7 years here... but posts... what? once a year? has less than 1000 posts.. no sorry.. you dont qualify.

i honestly think.... people who are here just for the site... should be considered something... not ogs... but something.....
I agree with that, I wouldn't consider myself an OG of the site because no, frankly, I don't put in enough input to warrant such a title. I have been active for the past 5+ years but keep my posting to a minimum because I search for what I need and then move on. I do feel though that the forum is on a slight decline, it seems like more and more everyday we have kids that come on here to provoke a response and then just sit on the other side of the screen and laugh. I had been super active in off topic when there was interesting stuff being posted all the time but now its just something I check when I'm bored. It is what it is, and as far as a honda site goes, I do get the information I need. This isn't facebook or myspace, and I don't expect the social networking as part of a bundle package, but come on, when someone posts a thread that has had the question answered 100 times, it's just ridiculous.
