Check engine light :( . Error code P0171 - System Too Lean :S

Hi guys, so I started my 01 civic and was waiting it to warm up a lil bit.

The engine light came on.

Got it checked , and the error code im gettin is P0171.

Googled it and it says P0171 means System Too Lean .

How do i fix it ???? I heard it might be the O2 sensor but not sure. :S

Start by clearing the code from the ECU and driving the car to see if the code returns. If so, here's how to troubleshoot:

Had this code on my 97 just about 2 weeks ago cold and drove it and threw it. Replaced O2 sensor and code erased itself and runs 10x better..

ooh ...O2 sensor...but i heard it might be a MAP sensor :S ...its soo confusing...

Go with O2 sensor In my opinion i had brand new Map sensor so i did o2 sensor. Or just start with cheapest problems and work up. But most likely o2 sensor.

trouble shooting saved me from buying a new distributor....

turned out to be a bad rotor...


trouble shooting also saved me from buying a new MAF sensor... which VW wanted 300 dollars for!

definatly investigate and narrow down a problem beforehand. better to replace 2 things.. than replace 5 things and it only be 2 things wrong.

i had a guy come to me and wanted new brakes all the way around as well as rotors on the front...

he already bought the parts...

he only needed front brakes done... the backs... my stepfather replaced a month prior... guy was an idiot.
