Like i said, If you build it right, youll have no worries..

Y8 should get you to 200 safely, but if you build the top and bottom ends then youll be good for 300+

Fast cheap and reliable can all happen if you do youre research. I hate when people say this. << you must have deep pockets then..

alot of people dont , then go cheap. research is fine, but quality parts arent cheap by no means. pistons, rods, bearings, etc.. cost 800 more or less.

Used parts are a shot in the dark.. you can save $$ but you dont know how good they will hold up..

Actually this is where research comes in.
Rods are expensive. A set a of eagle rods go for about $300+25 shipping
VItara pistons SUPER CHEAP!- 120 shipped
HONDA bearings CHEAP!-100
arp headstuds CHEAP! -80

So $630 for a 400+WHP motor isnt cheap?

Piece a quality turbo kit together for around 2k.

A 12sec or better 300whp daily driven car for under 3k. Thats cheap as f**k. lol Theres people who spend thousands to run 12's and youll be there for 1/4 of their cost.

If you're buying quality used parts you wont have a problem. ;)

Try to get a z6. They have better oil flow than the y7 and y8. The z6 crank has 2 oiling holes for the rods and the oil pump puts out more. The y7/y8 is do able but its better to have the added insurance of the z6.
My thoughts exactly. It will be better in the long run

ok fellas settle down lol

ok so z6 sounds like it would last longer due to the oil flow...

and yes i plan on building the top and bottom, of the motor... what kind of ECU will be best?

you can just get yourself p28 and use the hondata s300 thats ONE way to go with it and of course there are plenty more ways. [ still sorta new to the ecu tuning area ]

honestly dude. the people at dseries have all these types of information just floating there alot more then here since over there they are devoted to all SOHC engines.

Fck z6 and y8. SOHC Vtec is useless. Im going to build a 300whp D16y7. FTW! :thumbs up

Now why do you say that SOHC VTEC is useless, are you saying that the VTEC in a D-series is pretty much not noticeable, as in i wont be able to tell if its even there?

And if thats the reason, wouldn't a built D-series have a more noticeable VTEC kick, on top of the turbo?

what are your numbers? and are you using the vitara set-up, and is there a reason why you chose the y8 instead of the z6, and why you chose vtec over no vtec?
430whp 305ft lbs torque. and yes its a vitara build. i did a y8 because i had the block

D series motors are fun and do have great potential. i have owned and built a 98 EX and boosted it, you will love it if that is the route u go. Q. are you building a D motor due to money or what? Imo if ur gonna build get a B series. Vtec or no the tunning potential skyrockets with a twin cam. It may take a bit longer(trust me i know about money issues, i have a ex wife!) but you will be so much happier. I have a few months till i put like 15 pounds to my LS-Si and its gonna be great. GL with what ever you decide.

well not exactly because of money, even though a swap would run about $3K and i could probably build this D-series for about the same, i would be left with in one hand... a B-Series motor that makes about 180 horsepower, or in the other hand.... a built and boosted D-series that makes around 300 horsepower

so that kinda why im leaning more towards the boosted D, you get more for the money, and unless i come across some insane crazy deal on craigslist for a motor then i will be sticking to this plan....

although there is this guy on craigslist that has a B16A but with all B16B internals, so pretty much a CTR Motor.... and he wants $1200 for the complete swap.... i hope its still there when i have $1200 in my hand

well said. But imo the numbers game with Hp doesnt mean much to me. Its in the trans gearing. i have met B18A1 owners with bolts ons, injectors and a little tune, that have squashed SOHC turbos. So, it is all about u, and what u want, so happy motoring and happy holidays.

:word: and anyway.... 200whp isnt fast.... so it can be even cheaper

I don't know what's more annoying, seeing this line in every thread, or questions about having the best intake. It's a toss-up.
Seriously. I remember a thread when someone said this phrase and than Esotericimage's said how much he liked the phrase. Ever since than if ANY turbo question comes up he posts that phrase like its so so so meaningful.

so your saying that a b18 with gearing will beat my turbo sohc? lulz?
